I can tell you as a fact that he won’t step on the court as a Rocket for anything less than 3 years 120 million. We desperately need him and he’s worth every penny as he’s performed well as a Rocket at 44mm. That’s a great team deal as they save 5 miilion a year off his current deal.

Sure, let someone else pay him 120/3. Realistically, they'll look to resign him 90/3.

If Amen became a prolific 3 pt shooter above 36% he will be the best player in the league. Top 3 easily.

Because 90/3 is his market price at most. Let him walk and see what he'll get.

I would trade Sengun before Amen for sure.

We are royally hosed if he walks….did you not see Reed play last year? If we had a backup, I’d agree with you. FVV will get what he wants at this point.

I agree with you - Thompson on his own has more value than any two players on the Rockets going forward.

However - if the Rockets were going to invest in a 37 year old KD and a 31 year old Giannis - I can see the appeal of surrounding them with more pieces than fewer, but better long term pieces.

Good thing if the Rockets feel like they want to keep FVV...they just won't decline his option. They'll keep him, lose the MLE, and will go trade for another pg to backup.

I honestly dont think a team will offer FVV more than 30mil a year for more than 2 years. If he wants a significant role in a potential championship team and get his max value...the Rockets can offer him that. And they'll offer him a 3 year deal (3rd year team option hopefully).

It’s counterintuitive but it’s sensible. Vecenie talked about the same line of reasoning in an earlier pod. Basically the idea is to keep the trade as small as possible, in order to retain max number of assets for future optimization of the roster.

I said this when Kyrie got hurt. Now with KD, if we rolled into the playoffs with Kyrie / Amen / KD / Jabari / Sengun I think we are certified favorites to win it. I'd do this in a heartbeat. Would be great for Amen & Reed too

Fred's 3rd year option is like another 45m right? Would he take a 3/50 type deal? Free Landry's for life?

I think I would just keep Amen if he's needed in a trade. If a Sengun, others, and picks is too much to build a roster, we would need to pass, IMO.

I understand the rationale, but I put a high value on Amen. The next two years with Amen on a rookie contract along with hopefully the rest of his career would make him worth keeping.
