We are not at the second apron. If we accepted FVV's team option we would be above the first apron but below the second. If we signed him for $30 million or less we would be right up against the first apron but under it. We could get even further under by declining Holiday's TO and cutting Landale and replacing with vet minimum guys if we *really* wanted to.
How is Amen not viewed as the starting 2 guard now?? I'm lost. Put Amen and Alpy on the floor with FVV, KD and Jabari - plenty of shooting around those guys, plenty of defence, and so much more passing than previously
KD is gonna be on the wing. We gotta have big tall dudes around to protect him. Cam and Amen are perfect. There will be nowhere to hide. Hopefully KD and Amen meet up in the off season for some mid-range shooter to three-point shooter evolution mentorship. I know KD hasn't been that team leadership type guy in the past but in the case of the Rockets next year he's almost automatically Uncle Kev
I wouldn’t necessarily say we need a starter at the 2, but definitely another shooter who can finishes games. After the way Quentin Grimes played in Philly, he knows now is the time to cash in. Malik Beasley is an above average shooter, but I have sources that say he’s hell in the locker room. The guy I want is Ty Jerome. An UFA after finishing his 2 year/5M deal with Cleveland. Amen, Cam, Reed, Nate and possibly Tate. Even Tari was used at SG during the playoffs. That’s more than enough. Getting another SG just means Cam and Reed will never get the chance to prove themselves.

Just because I like to do these kinda things. Here is the minutes allocation I could see: FVV (33), Reed (15) Amen (35), Cam (13) KD (33), Tari (15) Jabari (35), Tari (23) Sengun (35), Adams (13) Add in some vet minutes for guys like Holiday, Tate, Green, Landale. Overall this looks good. I think the starting 5 is set and it would be very hard to change it - I dont think we will get better guys than that in FA. Our Guard rotation is the biggest question mark. Cam looked great as a scorer at time but was really disappointing last season. Reed never really looked good outside of SL or the G-League, but it seems like everyone (including me) is still high on him. Tari is great as a sixth man, Adams is great as a backup C. Big Problem is health. Can KD stay healthy? Can Tari? Can Adams? If we lose either one we look a lot worse all of a sudden. For Adams we still have Landale as insurrance. For KD I guess Tate? So we are talking about how much do we trust our young guards and how much do we trust our injury prone players to stay healthy and how much insurrance do we need? I could see us going for someone like Schröder again. Maybe Kennard who should be cheap. Or Gary Trent Jr.
Health is always a big question for every team every year. Many times the champion was lucky enough to stay reasonably healthy or get healthy for the playoffs while beating depleted teams. We do need another two. We've always needed another two. I'm convinced that if Jalen had faced any kind of legit competition during his Rockets tenure he would have ended up a better player. Stone and the failson slotted him into that position and forgot about it. Don't make the same mistake twice. Find someone to push Cam (and Reed). Would love to see Ty Jerome come here, but the bidding starts at the full mid-level exception and a lot of folks have been courting him already. Even if you can't get him, find a guy who looks average but has a superior trait--shooting, defense, court vision, etc.
We have good shooters and we have playing time for them.....we are stacked, we don't need another SG, and we don't have the money to sign one. DD
I could see a cheap flyer on Lonnie Walker IV. Udoka was an assistant on the Spurs when Walker came into the league.
