FVV is a very good point guard. Nobody else available, so time to sign him to a 40+ million per year deal. He carried us in the playoffs and will fit well with KD.

Id bring him back. I think Fred will much less of a burden this season as far as trying to produce offense and will be more of a catch and shoot player. Amen will handle the ball more, Reed will come along. Hopefully Cam and Jabari will improve... Oh and KD of course...

Fred is a playoff riser, hes a leader...he helps bridge the gaps. He also brings continuity and keeps the teams identity. Other than bringing in more shooting and maybe another combo guard type I dont want to change much with the projected rotation players we have left.

Exactly!!! Rockets have a 2 year window before the Spurs become a juggernaut. If Durant tilts the Rockets odds into a title next season, it will be well worth the trade maneuver.

The Rockets need to win now because the Spurs and Mavericks figure to be very good within 2 years.

I voted that they'll sign him to a longer deal at lower cost, and I think that makes the most sense for winning now.

But the fan in me hopes he walks or is dealt in a sign and trade. I just hate watching him play.

FVV likely has already agreed to a deal as Rockets needed his number to plan offseason.

The hopes of people that can watch a game and not understand his value will be crushed. At least for the offseason. Maybe he’ll get traded at the deadline when it makes more sense. The Rockets are still building a team and FVV on the team option hurts chances to add players, even PGs. The team option will only be exercised if another team sees FVV on the team option as a positive value.

FVV is a positive player. While not re-signing is smarter than exercising team option, getting rid of positive value players on a reasonable contract going forward is not wise.

Once you're over the cap and contending, you typically stay over until you rebuild. That's just how it's been. Letting talent, overpaid or not, just walk for nothing is a terrible strategy. If you really think a guy is overpaid, use picks to trade it for smaller contracts or something but I typically never want to see my team's total salary go down while in a championship window.

I think Fred does a lot of things well, but we really need more players that can get their own shot. Last season Ime said we only had one player that could get their own shot. He was talking about Jalen.

I don’t think it’s a requirement that your PG can get their own shot, but when that player is surrounded by other players that can’t get their own shot, then that’s a problem.

I think Cam has the potential to get his own shot, but he’s very raw and is somewhat limited by his own tunnel vision.

Reed doesn’t really have the quickness to consistently get past defenders, but he showed some ball handling craftiness when he played with the Vipers that looked promising.

So, while I like what Fred has done for the Rockets, we really need someone that can get their own shot. If not a PG, then maybe another position.

If you just completely let go of Fred's $40M, do you know how much capspace we'll have? $6M. That's it. Is there a player that can be our starting PG at $6M? I get that a lot of people don't believe in FVV as our starting point guard. But how are you getting a better PG if most of them like LaMelo, Ja, Trae, or even Derrick White or Jrue are on huge contracts already? You're not signing those guys in free agency so the easiest way would be to have a disposable guy on a giant but expiring contract that you can just add picks to to get the PG that you actually want.

Totally forgot we extended the deadline to act on his contract.

Looking at FA point guards, it’s quite unimpressive. Don’t see how we can improve much there in free agency to replace him. Unless you just trust Amen and Reed can take over the point full time.

I’d roll the dice with Fred. Would he still be trade eligible if we pickup option?

I hated Westbrook when he was here, but he was very good this year at 5m a year in Denver.

Would the Rockets be better with a 30m FVV or a 5m Westbrook?

Bro is not worth 40+ mill, you're crazy. I'm open to resigning him on a team friendly deal, not a deal that screw the Rockets.

Why is he a perfect mentor to Amen? They are nothing alike. It would be a horrible regression for Amen. Reed I can see since they both are diminutive and aren’t particularly good at driving to the hoop.

I don’t think it has to be the same archetype to effectively teach, enable and nurture.

Over a span of the next three years I am super comfortable with a FVV/Amen/Reed as the start of our backcourt. Maybe Cam is the 4th. Holiday us serviceable as well.

Sign him to 3 year last year team option for 25M/year at the very most.

Why does Fred do this? He knows we weren't going to opt into his 44M team option anyways but with this contract he will be guaranteed at the very least 50M and still be in a steady location playing for a good team under a good coach instead of having to play for the Nets or Hornets for around the same contract.

If Reed suddenly has a big leap then we can always convince Fred to come off the bench.
