Another thing about this trade -- the money had to match, obviously. And PHX needed to recoup some of their draft capital...

...but this year's pick-swap for the 10th pick wasn't even EXPECTED BY MOST PEOPLE TO CONVEY this year when we made the trade with Brooklyn last summer.

Most thought that any team with KD and Booker (plus the surrounding cast...) would at least make the playoffs rather than fall into the lottery, and more than likely -- at least for this past season -- eclipse whatever record the Rockets would have.

So us trading this year's 10th (via pick-swap) is like playing with house money since PHX's future assets (the unprotected first rounder in '27, and the swap in '29) were the real assets of value when we made the pick trades with BKN last year.

So trading this year's pick saves us about $6M (in terms of the cap hold of the 10th overall...) and allows us to add KD without gutting our core.

The more I think about this the happier I am.

I'm more disappointed to lose Dillon Brooks than Jalen Green. Dillon gave us good defense and 3-point shooting and really helped our defensive intensity. I wouldn't mind if Dillon Brooks ends up back on this team in a year or two.

I assume you're talking about Amen being the shortest player. That lineup is huge. Even our starting lineup with FVV, Amen, Jabari, KD and Alpi is enormous.

PHX is a really dumb team because I bet they would have gotten more back at the trade deadline AND their pick back which meant they didn't have to try for that silly playoff run they went for at the end of the season and just embraced tanking and who knows, with a few more lotto balls they could have had a top 5 pick.

That franchise is really down bad right now, they make terrible decision after terrible decision.

This is like the 97 season when the Suns had Kidd, Nash, and KJ, except a lot more depressing.

Rockets thought KD was going to be a Rocket at the deadline, they thought the deal went through.

Keeping Jabari now is preferable in my opinion, hopefully he takes a big step forward with Brooks gone.

Not too young to contend, but perhaps too young to understand a reference to board discourse from a couple of years ago?

(Admittedly, it was a bad joke on my part.)

Damn, hope the stats are right on!
I liked Brooks but he was ass in the playoffs, not sure why but he just looked timid compared to the regular season.

I think this was the best deal we could do, all the best to JG but it’s obvious the organization saw the writing on the wall after his playoffs performance. JG is too consistent to be trusted in playoffs and mentally does not have the will of an Alpha. Rockets are now going to prioritize Amen and look at assessing Reed and Cams potential.

KD has been traded three times. Here's the total haul:

Yeah they are salty, they really wanted Bari, Reed, or Cam.

Durant really didn't ruin the Nets though, that was the Harden trade that did that.

Durant was just a FA signing for the Nets.

BKN actually got assets back from Durant and are doing mostly fine now. Suns were the ones who traded those assets for Durant and then gave up assets to get rid of Ayton and traded for Beal. They need to be mad at their FO not Durant.

Good move. Jabari had some miscues at times in the playoffs, but he wasn’t afraid to take and make big shots. I wanna see what He can develop into with a slightly different roster makeup.

Actually...I wonder though, if the pick wasn't involved earlier in the year then it was likely going to be a higher pick. Suns sucked without Durant, they would have lost more games, and maybe we are sitting here with a top 5 pick.

Either way, I do think they would have gotten more back from him at the deadline.
