Unpopular opinion but the Warriors had more talent than the Rockets. Blaming the loss on Udoka is unfair.
I disagree. He seems like the type that wouldn’t want to gamble and would prefer the opportunity to personally develop players and his team. He and Pop like to mold players from scratch. Because if you don’t 100% buy in to whatever Ime wants, it’s not going to work.
Also disagree with this — the talent point. I don’t blame Ime necessarily, though the offensive scheming has been bad. But talent wise, we had way more overall talent. But they had Steph and Jimmy. And the other guys stepped up and did well enough. But having two legit stars that have BEEN there goes a longggg way.
and the rule of the nba is that the team with the most talented players usually wins. I get it. Seems like semantics. We had a team that had more talented players usually across the board, but their best players are still better than our best players.
I don’t think it’s semantics. It’s math. The mean talent level was higher on the Rockets. But the warriors had two outliers in Jimmy and Steph. And since only one person can shoot the ball at a time, having one player significantly better than the other team’s players, as you said, makes you more likely to win if you can keep the game close. Then you just add the experience of championship runs in 3 key players vs 1 for Rockets and the talent level doesn’t matter. sum all of that up, it was experience that doomed the rockets, imo.
For me, the talent level looked really close, and the series was essentially decided on a coin flip, with the Warriors clearly better in 3 games and the Rockets better in 3 games.
The Rockets were in a close series with a play in team. Every game they played a strict 8 man rotation(not counting garbage time), the Rockets lost. Every game they played more than an 8 man rotation (not counting garbage time), they won. Guess what Udoka went with for game 7?
Well deserved. Extension doesn't mean much for Coach's job stability as we witnessed this season. Now, go pick up someone that knows offense.
This really is all that he needs to do to address his main weakness as a coach. All the melodrama on here (usually from player only fans, most of the rest of the fans seem to be behind Ime because they're not making up imaginary scenarios where Ime's on the hot seat) is ridiculous. He just needs a couple of good assistants and we'll have one of the best coaching staffs in the league.
Remember, the offseason is the Cuckoo part of the year where a lot of what is posted here consistently borders on insanity. I think we are at peak nuttiness right now and it will last at least until the KD issue is settled one way or the other.
Regardless, or not if Ime coached perfectly in the playoffs he is easily a top five or six coach in the NBA and we would not be able to find a remotely equal replacement so extend this guy for 10 years for all I care
The Rockets don’t have any offense simply due to the players they have. This is why they need a KD. I’m not sure what Ime was supposed to do with a bunch of brick layers.
He deserved this extension but thinking about how shitty our offensive schemes are going to be the next couple years is pain.
Next step should be making him GM as well, move Stone off into the sunset and let Ime really control things Pop-style to really set the culture in concrete.
