The real disconnect here is people that view Jalen as part of the core, and the group that view Jalen as nothing more than a 6th man supporting scorer larping as a top scorer, and not part of the core. We had the 2nd best record in the west and nearly won our first round series with our lead scorer giving us absolutely nothing in 6 of the 7 games. It's absurd that people are acting as if replacing green with Durant isn't a massive upgrade to our ceiling, granted with some risks.
why do we have to replace Green with Durant and not Dillon with Durant? Whatever you feel about Jalen in the playoffs, it's valid but those 82 games where he was a real contributor on a 2nd seed was real. You replace one perimeter scorer with another one thats better still gonna have us in a hole. When KD misses his 30 games a year, who's going to create on the perimeter when the clock is down? Amen?
I personally do not see Jalen Green as part of the core. He is fine on the roster until they find someone better - but he doesn't have much value right now. The Suns don't even want him from the Rockets.
The statistics I posted include a sampling of both counting stats and counting/rate advanced metrics.
Green doesn't do that, if he did we wouldn't be having this conversation. He's occasionally gets hot on the perimeter and has good scoring games, he's absolutely atrocious at actual half court creation. We saw in the postseason what happens when a team gives him the slightest bit of actual attention. He will make a great JR Smith type eventually, that's not a guy you fear losing in the slightest.
I sit in the boring middle on my Green takes, but isn't the reason for PHO non-interest largely his incompatibility with Booker? (I.e. it's not necessarily, or not just, his intrinsic valuelessness.)
If we throw out counting stats, if you think both players performed better than Green in the advanced metrics only, then perhaps you should.
I agree that we don’t want to sell low on Green but if he was attractive league-wide the Suns would easily be able to move him to another team. That doesn’t appear to be the case. I suspect that the near-max extension money, along with a terrible playoff performance, has really hurt his value.
Phoenix's problem with Green is that he doesn't fit with Booker, and the league is basically telling them that Green's intrinsic valuelessness is worth less than his contract.
I mean yes and no.The fact that PHO couldn't turn around and flip him would tell you a lot more about his intrinsic value if these markets were frictionless, but ... there is a lot of friction. It's just a pain in the ass to spend finite time orchestrating a 3-way deal that you find yourself needing to orchestrate because of the idiosyncrasies of your roster. Obviously the 3-way would be easier if he was more of an asset in light of his contract, so I'm not writing that off entirely. But all I mean to say is that I think it's possible or even likely that people are reading a bit too much into the unwillingness of PHO to engage on Green.
I think I would rather stand pat and keep this team exactly as is with fred under a lower salary and trade the #10 pick. I also agree that SAS and OKC are ahead of us. Durant aint closing that gap. The only thing that closes the gap is one or multiple of our "young" players make a significant leap. If I believe that is my best shot at doing so in trying to close the gap, Im keeping as many scratch offs as possible. Durant is a pay day loan. Upfront value that is problematic long term.
Near max??? He took a major hometown discount at mid 30’s. He’s our second best star and needs to stay.
Certainly one did across the board The other was all over the place, which makes sense due to him having the smallest sample with mostly bench minutes.
People on reddit believe this will be the best offer , with the renouncing of Green to get them to be able to take on Durant Salary. This makes the most sense because the 10th pick will be used to replace Smith. Suns highly covet Jabari, and there future 27 pick If it is this it im all in, if anything more probably not worth it, but losing Smith will hurt, thou rockets probably not going to extend him for the money he wants(Smith), might as well go all in, rockets cant afford all the Core 7. Brooks is contract they want to move away from even thou his defense is valued.
Dillon Brooks is an absolute zero and didn’t do squat in the playoffs and we’re trying to give away 23 year old almost all-star Jalen Green!!! He scored 38 in game two….what did slow unathletic Brooks do??? Subtracting Brooks from the lineup and replacing with Durant makes us a champion: FVV Green Amen Durant Sengun Adams Jabrari Eason = BIG TIME CONTENDER!!!
Every draft has someone like everyone except a generational player. That's an absurd way to measure value.
