You dont know what his ceiling is. I really wish people would stop saying stuff like this its so unserious. Your guess isnt better than anyone else's thats all this is, is a guess. which is why you dont give him away like op said.
Any GM doing their homework would get to the bottom of Cam's story. He interviewed poorly and wasn't prepared for the types of questions he would be asked during the draft. Then, Cam bottled his wave of resentment over being passed over by teams. During his rookie season, he showed flashes of being a steal for the Rockets. But going into his second season, his fire simmered as Cam watched from the bench. When he was told to gear up for the Summer league, his heart wasn't in it for year 2, and his jumper and decision-making regressed. He's never been one with attention to detail, but he won't turn twenty-one until July 5th. Now, he probably thinks he's graduated from summer play and feels he's earned a spot in the rotation, if only they would let him play. Cam's either going to prove his worth by growing up, or he'll be out of the league in two years.
I personally have nothing vested in him. He is a kid that was supposed to be a top pick that turned into a late mid FRP. That is 10M to 3M a year. Then he went from the offense designed around him to not even picking up spot minutes. I am not saying anything to him because life is screaming in his ear. Maybe hide and watch and enjoy him because he is our entertainment. I wish him well, as should you.
I didn’t know you could predict the future. Also I simply said we don’t know. Which neither you nor anyone else knows how he would perform.
No. Someone is paying KPJ and certain guys are acting like he is worth more than Jalen. Cam will get his shot with somebody. I doubt it will pan out, but he does have talent. I know 50 year old guys that are still immature. Some guys just can’t get over their mental issues.
Every time someone speaks with such authority on the future I get super annoyed. It is highly likely that Flagg is going to be a really good NBA, IN MY OPINION is a better way to put it. There were tons of guys that thought Yao Ming was going to be the best center of all time. The same is being said about Wemby.
lots of assumptions here. You don’t know if his heart wasn’t in summer league or that he thinks he earns a spot in the rotation.
You're right. It's all on the eye test and what I read (from him and others). But a GM looking into Cam would get all the facts.
You know assist percentage is a measure of how much you contributed to the total assist generated while you're on the floor right? That means that if youre on the court and the team only got ONE assist and you are the player that got that ONE assist, youd have an assist percentage of 100%. Assist% is highly influenced by teammates you play with not just with their ability to make shots, but how many assists they get as well. Jalen was the highest usage player who played the most minutes with other starters. . Its a lot easier to get an assist passing to Sengun, Dillon, Amen, Jabari vs Landale, pre injury Reed, Nate Williams, Jock Landale...And yet still despite all those things working in Jalen's favor he was only 5th in the team in asst%. Theres no way Amen shouldve had a higher asst% than him. Hell, he was barely better in that stat than Aaron Holiday. But thats why i used per 36 because it doesnt matter what the team around you did as far as passing. Again, I want to see Cam pass better...but folks use that as THE ultimate reason he shouldnt play and its ridiculous. Especially when we already play so many guys who arent good passers but arent close to the scorer he is.
Nothing has been reported of Cam being a locker room issue. Nothing suggests he isn't coachable. Nothing says he isn't a good teammate or that he has an attitude or negative in character. He had one hiccup with the press which he was bombarded and coaxed with questions from the media about playing time. He likely wanted more playing time as any player would. He may have been a little frustrated. I did not see any big issue. I took this as a young and hungry guy that just wants to play and was being honest at that moment. Sure he should not have said it and he tried not too but the reporters kept asking him about playing time and he let some of his thoughts out perhaps. It did not seem overly negative. It seemed like a little confusion and a guy trying to stay positive thru this time to me. He initially said when asked about getting consistent minutes that game: "I contributed a little bit, but it doesn't really affect anything. I'm just glad we got the win," Then asked if he was in a weird spot: "I'm not in a weird spot, I just have a lot of question marks about myself." Then he was asked if he thought he had done enough to get playing time which he said, "No." Then he was asked what more does he need to do. Which he replied, "I don't know." Again none of this is negative or accusatory or angry. The responses show a young guy who has a lot to think about in terms or revaluating himself and improving himself. It also shows a hunger and desire to play and contribute. How many times have you seen people in the corporate world frustrated or confused with management or executives? This is no different. How many times people lie or hide saying allthe right things? This was one video. We have seen or read nothing else about him being an issue on this team. Let's give the guy some grace and the benefit of the doubt rather than accuse him of bad behavior due to a few honest comments. https://www.si.com/nba/rockets/news/houston-rockets-cam-whitmore-sounds-off-on-inconsistent-minutes
Jalen Green not developing his passing game? 1. His passing has improved and had a lot of workload due to Fred VanVleet being injured for 22 games and Fred VanVleet being terrible the whole season. 2. The Rockets mostly have terrible Shooters. Amen Thompson, Alperen Sengun, Tari Eason are all terrible Shooters when Jalen Green is on the Floor. Jabari Smith is a very good shooter but doesn't get minutes.
This is not the time to start lowering our depth. You let stone worry about the numbers. Throwing away depth on stupid trades is not the way go just because youre worried about paying people. you have no idea what they are gonna get paid yet. you dont know what other deals we can make in the future. you hold on this, because we have the leverage. Im so glad a lot of you guys arent GM of this team. You panic buy like women. Your feelings rule every trade idea you have and logic goes out of the window lol I can see why so many teams make obviously dumb decisions. they are run by people food shopping when they are hungry but they have a kitchen already filled with food.
His assist % went down from his 2nd and 3rd seasons. I agree at times it looks like he's been able to make better reads but that is fleeting - was hoping he would be at like 5 APG at this point. He was not making good reads in the playoffs. He is also almost double Cam on per 36. But I also don't think that's the main reason he isn't playing, I think it's more attention to detail on defense that Udoka wants to see more. I would have liked to see more. He had some very good stretches last season but the passing aspect of his game goes in and out. He did not see the floor well during the playoffs.
Using the words "almost double" doesn't change that he's only 1.7 ast per 36 ahead of him which i originally said. Almost double would mean more if it was like 10 to cams 5 or even 7 to 3.5 instead of "almost 4" to " " almost 2". Yeah I think Udoka wants to see more from him, but I think the main reason he isnt playing is just because of the numbers. There hasnt been enough minutes and i believe despite his flaws he'd be in the regular rotation if we didnt have so many wings.
Look, Ime is taking an old school approach with Cam - Breaking him of bad habits of hanging his head, or pouting on the floor. If Cam embraces it, he will come out of it as a great player. Cam, does need to understand Ime is only trying to help him......if he does that, he will be the best self he can be. DD
We need our backcourt to be able to do both. Our current backcourt sucks at both. A Pg that plays 40m a game and averages 5.6 assists per game is putrid. Jalen’s is not a good passer. Cam needs to get a lot better at passing and defense to be a starter at SG.
