Do you want a 36 year old Kevin Durant for the minimum pieces needed to get a deal done or do you want to hold on to our assets and wait for other opportunities to arise in the near future?
KD will be 37, has discussed a $120 million dollar extension, and is an injury risk based on his history. He's declining in overall impact but is overpriced as the current fifth highest player in the NBA with an MVP salary. We made the #2 seed with a 22 year old core, who have improved tremendously as a unit the past two seasons. We would be making a desperate move for a two year window vs long term contention with flexibility for future moves. Not to mention younger stars opportunities on better contracts in future years, including creating homegrown stars as we have. Trading talented youth and assets for an aging star on an albatross contract is a classic way NBA treadmill teams are made, Passing is a better long term decision.
We can do both, so there's no reason to wait. Even if we acquire Durant, we'll have 4 picks and multiple young players to trade next summer. No player is going to pop up who can carry a team to a title and is in their prime with no character flaws. So ultimately we will have to make at least 2 moves.
Hell to the naw, collect more assets wait for another star in year or 2. Rockets have phx picks. All they need is shoot ing... G et Beasley
yes for fred no otherwise, try to go for Booker while you have Phoenix on the phone. i think KD is one of the most brilliant minds in the game and could do a ton as a mentor to the young guys. I don't think it's a homerun go for a championship move but I do think it would be good in the long run, much more value in that role than FVV.
I'll probably be upset if we send out anybody besides Fred We swap Fred with KD and I see a WCF appearance
it's so interesting that everyone here agrees that it should be a FVV based packaged, (with brooks you need Jabari or Jalen (more likely) added for money to avoid luxury/hard caps, but the franchise is signaling that they value Fred over Jalen, which makes no sense especially considering they just told Iko they didn't need Booker because Jalen had that in him (that's a lie).
No. KD is a mercenary, who will try to make the team in his preference. It will go from Udoka’s team to Durant’s team, even if Udoka is the one pushing for it. Ultimately, Barkley is right - Durant does not drive the bus, but wants to act like he does.
Sorry, didn't see a poll. Wanted to get a sense of how divided/in agreement the site is on the potential Durant trade.
wait for what? everytime there's a star available, it's the same let's wait excuse. at this point, people rather lose with homegrown players than win with outside talent.
How would y’all feel about having it be VanVleet, Brooks, number 10 and the 2027 Suns pick top 8 protected?
We cannot do both. KD would be making 35% of the cap ($63M/yr) through 2028, the year in which he turns 40 years old. There's no possibility of a us in the future having KD, Sengun, Amen on his max extension + another star making star money. Fertitta isn't paying $50 - $100M/yr or more in luxury tax. If you trade for KD, either: a) This is your group until 2028, plus or minus role player changes on the margin, or b) You're moving on from the homegrown era almost entirely via trading one of Sengun or Amen and some of Tari/Reed/Jabari etc. to build a team of KD + someone else + Sengun or Amen.
As long as we get him for the right price I definitely want him. I see it as a move that puts us in contention over the next three seasons, and we have plenty of runway and assets to make sure that we can continue to contend after that.
