That’s also because he had to face the Astros pitchers.

He said Framber was elite when he was still a spotty pitcher in his early years… he knows it’s more than the ballpark.

Red Sox fans now claiming ownership wants to slash payroll if they’re not going to win. They have had the ability to be cost conscious as much as Crane and other mid-market teams… and now they’re out of the Devers contract and probably secretly coaxing Bregman to opt out.

Guess they’re fully numb to it now ever since the Betts trade.

Yordan and Paredes returning + a deadline bat would be electric.

    Something like:

    Pena
    Altuve
    Yordan
    Paredes
    Diaz
    Walker
    Additional bat
    Meyers
    Smith

Not sure whats possible but another + lefty bat in there would make us a lot more dangerous

This team grinds it out right now. Hopefully they don't fall back into the "Yordan will save us" mentality when he returns.

lets also give some credit to the somewhat wacky layout of that area of the park. A ball hit there with that height is usually a tough play regardless, just a weird area of the park IMO.

Don't see that happening. They managed a 500 record when Yordan was hitting like Adam Everett.

Strom was and is very good but he left the Astros in part to give Miller and Murphy a chance. He publicly said that he knew it was time when they no longer needed him and he was learning from them.

Murphy and Miller follow and have regular contact with pitching coaches at all levels from high school to Japanese leagues. They are not the only reason for the success of the Astros pitching but a big part of it.

It was personal between Devers and the GM and owner. Devers was basically told he was going to not play third and was forced to DH. Then in season they tried to force him to 1st.

He is a very good hitter but positionally he is limited going forward, has a terrible body and a lot of years and money left. My guess is Devers ends up at first where he is a pretty good bat as long as he avoids injuries. Giants move out some contracts and get Devers. Win for both teams. The GM never wanted Bregman and Devers money both on the books.

Again, we will all see owners being more creative on getting these long term contracts off their books as the years progress. Many probably felt they were pushed into it to compete figuring this was the way going forward, but truthfully I think it will be less frequent now and mainly for the ultra high end players.

My 92 win formula is being exceeded

    Valdez/Brown (win 2/3)
    19-9

    Remainder of starters (win half)
    22-21

Astros on pace for 93.5 wins.

Would be nice if he could get some pressure free at bats in the 6 or 7 hole easing him back in. No Sugarland assignment needed.

Sure…. Acutely aware of al of that. But he was still playing and producing and a key factor in their recent resurgence. They never benched him, suspended him. Obviously they were going to jump at the opportunity whenever a team was willing to take on the entirety of the deal.

Plenty of blame towards the team on how they handled all of it (in many ways, they created the situation). And all the rest of the stuff (out of shape, contract not expected to age well, etc.) went into the calculated decision to dump his salary.

And most people prognosticated he’d be a DH-only eventually. It’s not like he changed any of his habits tremendously just because he signed the deal. Him being a malcontent for all those asks was annoying… but understood by most of the fan base there. A gifted hitter who will probably continue to be a gifted hitter as long as hes in any teams’ lineup.

Going to watch clips of both walk-offs 20 times before starting a dreadful and daunting work week.

Astros just don’t show up in Latest News at MLB.com after two pretty good wins and walkoffs? Guess we’re getting the silent treatment.
