Seems like a fair point until you consider that the other pieces people have going out are Jock Landale and Aaron Holiday. Why the **** would Phoenix trade literal KD for a trade centred around a trash-tier player at the same position as their best player, some other benchwarmers and an untested rookie? It makes absolutely no sense.
I think there’s a decent chance in such a situation that we’re worse in the regular season and better in the playoffs.
the only reason I can stomach Jalen in a KD deal is because he’s on a near max contract. I don’t think we are desperate to get off that money, and I don’t think he’s a negative asset with the contract. That said, getting off the Jalen money is gonna help us extend other important pieces. ideally Fred is part of the trade instead, but we’ve got to be realistic about Fred’s value. I think Jalen goes on to play well elsewhere, but you’ve got to give up talent to get talent. I probably pull the trigger on a KD deal that includes Jalen, #10 and filler. The Suns should take that deal as Jalen is the best prospect they are likely being offered from any team in the KD market. #10 is probabky the best pick they are being offered. I wouldn’t want to go higher than that.
I want off this rollercoaster so I can move on with my summer. I want KD but I know I’m gonna be mad when I read how much we give up
Right but he will be 37 when the season starts. I’m not giving up much at all for Durant. What has he won over the last several years? His health cannot be be relied upon. He can’t carry a team these days. Games the last 5 years… 35 45 47 75 62 Depth matters in today’s league. I don’t want to gut the teams depth.
Pretty much this, they are not going to get a better deal elsewhere, at least if you were to generally ask every GM I think most would say that is the best deal. I think a lot of this is posturing, trying to get another major asset out of us, especially that bit yesterday about how they are willing to trade him to any team, but what other team is going to give up assets for an old KD? Only a team that feels they are close to winning will do that. Utah isn't giving up Kessler to uselessly put KD on their team, Charlotte's not giving up Brandon Miller. Now it is possible they find a team dumb enough to sell their future for KD, there are really dumb GMs out there, but I hope the Rockets remain strong. Like I keep saying, our core is all sub 25, there is no reason for us to be desperate. If it's not KD, it can be a guy next year, every year guys want off their teams, you get KD for a price that doesn't hurt you. Losing Green doesn't hurt you, I do think he'd go to PHX and play better, but we have Cam still, we have Reed still, so losing Green doesn't really hurt us, and I do think just having Durant on the team will help them play better. I hope it happens for the deal rumored which was Green, Holiday, Landale, #10. That's fair. Suns are getting TWO prospects out of that, we don't have a pick to give them next year, but they are already getting their pick back. So here is the thing... I think they are trying to make up for all their recent mistakes which was...you guessed it, selling their future. People wanting to sell the farm for Durant need only to look at what the Suns did to get into the situation they were in. How we almost got into said situation when we traded for Westbrook. No, young prospects and draft picks are gold in this league, Suns are lucky to get two back for Durant. If they want more, F em.
Yep, I’m not a big fan of Jalen but like people have said before he still has perceived upside. Add that along with a top ten lottery pick and now Phoenix has two young players with upside that they can kickstart their rebuild for a player that will be retired in 2-3 years. They’re not getting anything better from the Spurs or the Heat. The Wolves offer probably went down after statements Durant doesn’t want to go there.
There are still people that think Jalen Green is a good player and not completely hollow stats. There are a ton of players that can do what he does if given 17 shots a game. I think dumping him will be addition by subtraction so the franchise can move those shots to somebody who may actually impact winning when it matters. I'm reticent to trade for Durant because of the extension he may demand at his age. However trading Jalen Green, I'm all for that, even if its not for Durant.
If we are offering Jalen it’s a done deal. Durant is on the way. I think it is stupid, not because I don’t want Durant, but because FVV and Amen is not what the doctor ordered. We are just taking out our 39% 3 point shooter for an aging superstar, who is admittedly much better than Dillon on the offensive side of the ball. If we get Durant and sign FVV to an extension we are screwing our flexibility for at least 2 years and maybe 3. I would rather send out FVV and 2 picks than Jalen and 1 pick. We’ve never seen Jalen as a Robin instead of the Batman. We already know Fred’s ceiling and he is regressing not progressing.
Sure. Obviously. I never said otherwise. That in no way negates my point though. He was also the leading scorer on a 52-win team as a 22/23 year old. Thusly, I would argue he is not a negative asset even on his upcoming extended contract. I get that everyone is out on Jalen here. It is reasonable and understandable. But 1 playoff series does not completely define a player, especially their first playoff series ever.
If you exclude that year it only goes up to 53 games. I don’t suspect that number will rise with increasing age and use.
Phoenix isnt sending kd where he doesnt want to go. Thats a sure way to make sure star players completely avoid you in the future.
The fact that he's the exact same player offensively and has shown zero improvement in what should be a players greatest developmental years is what's defining Jalen right now. The embarrassment in the postseason was just the final straw. His bag of skills is just way too thin because he's added nothing to it like great scorers are supposed to. Jalen Green per 100 possessions 23 31 PPG, 5.2 AST, 3.7 TO 54% TS 24 30 PPG, 5.4 AST, 3.6 TO 54% TS 25 31 PPG, 5.1 AST, 3.7 TO 54% TS This matches the eye test, there's been no development as a scorer or playmaker. Granted he was less bad defensively last season. Theres absolutely zero to hang your hat on and think he's gonna "keep getting better" when he has yet to get better in any significant way. He will someday find his role in the Eric Gordon supporting scorer spot, but that's not a guy you need to build around or hold onto tightly.
In other news, someone just acquired major assets to compete w/ Houston in the trade market: “The Memphis Grizzlies are trading Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks and one first-round pick swap, sources told ESPN on Sunday. Orlando is sending to Memphis the No. 16 pick in the 2025 NBA draft, Phoenix's first-round pick in 2026, plus its 2028 and 2030 unprotected first-round selections, sources said. The pick swap is lightly protected in 2029.”
The fact that GSW game planned for Jalen never gets taken into effect. We have never seen Jalen perform in a Robin vs a Batman role. People that blast Jalen never take the bad coaching and the unbalanced roster into consideration.
How many great players can you find that showed virtually no statistical improvement their first 4 seasons. Most eventually great players who get drafted high are in s**t situations and that never stops them.
I think Jalen Green is honestly taking opportunities away from Amen moreso than FVV is. Look at their usage numbers--Jalen is at 27% (near superstar level) and FVV is at 17% (closer to a "vet roleplayer" like Conley or CP3). I also still believe FVV is a better jump shooter than Jalen and this season was kinda flukey for at least Fred, and possibly Jalen too (in the opposite direction). Playstyle, I can see the point that Amen/Jalen are a better fit together in an uptempo offense. But I still think the fit is fairly poor because Jalen is a bad passer and below-average floor spacer.
