This would be a better thread if it were about Sports Bras.

I was reading about sports bars attendance yesterday. Something like 80% of Gen Z watches sports on their phone, with Millennials also consuming a big chunk on their mobile devices. A lot of these demographics prefer augmented reality sports coverage like a greenscreen in the background that the commentator can interact with.

Gen Z also isn't drinking- they like mocktails. Regardless of what you think of that, the bar scene needs to change to accommodate.

I don't go to sports bars to drink and watch games. I just don't have that social circle anymore. A lot of my neighbors have sports bar-like setups with big TVs, seating and even bars in their garages or back yards and just open up to friends and neighbors on Sundays or during a big game.

canned/bottled "mocktails" and N/A beer is one of, if not the, biggest growth segment of the beverage industry.

    Wineries are hurting, for real.

Brainstorming revenue sources with my business partners in the music festival space- we discussed not only mocktails but nootropics shots and possibly
Canned oxygen or popup oxygen bars.

People want to party and feel good, but kids just don’t like booze the way they used to.

They'll take any pill or vape-contraption you hand them at the gas station, but god bless they won't touch that bottle

Because they're healthier than us cretins.

I believe that sports bars were a fad of the late 80s through early 00s. Improvements in televisions (HD), accessibility to sporting events (streaming), and overpriced and underwhelming food and drinks turned people off. It feels like Bar Rescue visits a sports bar every other episode.

Except for major events where fans may want to be around other fans (atmosphere), I think sports bars are dead. You can only dress up women in titty tops and booty shorts for so long.

    Definitely a changing demographic.
    Changing tastes
These next generation is no longer physical social
There is a screen between them almost all of the time

They probably congregate more for ESports than real sports

I watched most of the pay per view Rockets playoff games at SRO on FM 1960 in the 90s.

I was there every Thursday night at our office HH....er, uh...."sales meeting." I just looked it up on Google Maps and it looks like it's a ninja warrior training place now.

A lot of you younger folks won't believe this, but Dan Patrick (yes, THAT Dan Patrick) actually opened one of the first sports bars in Houston. I think it was in the Rice Village(?). My sister's boyfriend (now husband) worked there and can tell you some stories.... I remember me and my friends showed up to watch the Rockets/Lakers playoff game. This was the Twin Towers/Showtime era. Game 4 of the series when Ralph hit the shot in Game 6. We were in high school, but he let us right in, gave us a table up front and brought us pitchers of beer on the house all night. I still joke with him that that was the night he got my blessing to marry my sister.

Its something that you sort of forget about later, but a bunch of Rocket playoff games were on Pap Per View during their Championship runs. I think it was any home game not picked up on network TV.
