Spurs traded the 8th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Rob Dillingham, to the Timberwolves in exchange for a 2031 first-round pick (unprotected) and a 2030 first-round pick swap (top-one protected

 

Could end up being a horrible trade on the Spurs part, right?
If the 2030 swap doesn't convey and the 2031 pick is 20+, then it is a head scratcher.

Time will tell.

I think in a trade up it would be 4-8 range.

Carter Bryant should be the pick if we pick at #10

 

Another player climbing the charts, who has to be in the conversation at #10 is Noa Essengue. We don't have accurate athletic testing numbers to compare him to other players, as he's actively playing for Ulm in the German League playoffs (Bundesliga). Today at 11 CST, he's playing against a team that defeated them earlier this season.

The team lists him at 205 cm (6'7 and some change). Put him in shoes and he's 6'9. He won't turn 19 until December. What stands out, even if you don't watch a single moment of tape, is that he's playing productive playoff minutes (18 to 27 a game) against adult men. He's a capable and impactful defender who thoroughly understands the game. He's also putting up scoring.

Once you see highlights, his athleticism begins to jump out. He's exceptionally smooth in transition: spacing the floor, finishing, making good, simple decisions, etc. At his age, he may have more offensive upside than Tari Eason; he handles the ball far more smoothly than Jabari. A true small forward that isn't giving up size like Brooks, and Essengue has a better feel for the game on both ends than Brooks does.

The Spurs are hoping Essengue would drop to them at 14. I hope not.

just an update from today's playoff game against Wurtzburg for Noa: 22 points (8–16 from two, 2–5 from 3-point range), 14 boards in 29:38).



Cumulative FT numbers by season: ‘22-23: 69-139 (49.6%) ‘23-24: 182-310 (58.7%) ‘24-25: 189-261 (72.4%). He steadily gets to the line.

 

I wouldn't mind him. Really

I don't know if he's good for the Rockets, but I am glad he's doing well to give another option at 10. Or make someone else fall a bit to the Rockets. I will say if he continues to play well and demonstrate more potential as a shooter, I'd at least prefer him over Carter Bryant.

 

Noa seems quite game-ready, and he's very young. You usually don't see European coaches put their young talents in the middle of the fray, but Essengue seems to be coming off the bench and logging key minutes as a central cog in their winning streak.

 

Carter Bryant is the worst player in the draft. He’s awful.

 

Carter may take 2 years to develop. He has Tari potential, but like most FRPs there is a high bust potential. We will see.
