I just saw that one link and I don't trust anyone except Sham who talks about unnamed sauces. But I would love for it to be true. Trade for Jalen, Milwaukee, please.
Agreed. Everyone says Giannis/AlP won’t work but it could he “double big” on steroids. Ime might just want to run that back. Retain Adams and you have a rotation with two bigs on the floor at all times. The more I think about it, the more I hope this happens. If they’re actually high on Green, I think Green/ Jabari (though I’d try to sell them on Tari), Cam and picks is the likely package that gets it done. Sucks because we’d forgo all our best shooters except Dillon/Reed. Sengun / Adams Giannis / Jabari Or Tari Amen / Jabari or Tari Dillon / ???? Fred / Reed Would definitely need to upgrade the backcourt. And then see how “double big” does as a full time experiment with Giannis. If it’s not working by the trade deadline, package Sengun for a disgruntled star guard who wants to play with Giannis/Amen. I might be crazy but I’d be good with this.
Giannis is a short term solution. Sure trade for him if the cost isn’t too high. Green, Brooks, (pick only one Jabari (high cost to retain) or Eason (health)) & FVV through in #10 are all worth losing for the Giannis maybe even a fFRP ours not the Suns. Sengun, Amen & Reed are deal breakers. Our shooting has to be the highest priority if a deal does happen.
My interpretation of that statistic is that it simply costs too much to acquire those top established stars, and you deplete the 3 and D, glue guys, bench depth, and low guaranteed money draft picks that make a championship team. If you look at the history of the NBA when teams end up trading for guys like that they have no depth, and end up being very top heavy. It worked w Kawhi because they knew he wanted to be in LA, and even w winning a championship he bolted, so they got a discount for him because he was a rental. It worked w Shaq because its LA and things happen for them at huge discounts anyways, just look at the Luka deal. So if you take those things into consideration, there are almost zero examples of when a star gets traded that the team has enough assets to build around them other than Lebron (Lebron also had tremendous pull to get where he wanted throughout his career unlike anyone else). Overpaying and depleting your team is likely the cause. It is not about acquiring the league's best player, I am talking about acquiring the best player that is an established super star on any specific team via trade and winning it all. That has only happened w Kawhi, Shaq, and Lebron over 40 years. All of those teams were built given massive discounts. Star players are always on the move in the modern NBA, especially once they turn 30+ they begin ring chasing and grow impatient and jump from team to team, it is untrue that star players just stick w their teams for their career, this is not the 90s. Look at how many teams Harden, Westbrook, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, KD, CP3 were on after they turned 30. Melo played for 5 different teams after he turned 32. I vaguely remember D Wade in Bulls and Cavs uniforms You have to either draft your star, or you have to get someone up and coming at a discount that no one else sees that level of value in (SGA, Brunson, Haliburton, Harden to Houston) type deals. The alternative is you have to steal a super star like LA teams have done. The price of established super stars historically has been too high.
I don't think the sample size is small at all, lets go back through the entire history of the NBA and point to me when a team won a championship after trading for a 30+ year old as their best player. Maybe if you go back to when they had shoe salesman in the NBA you may find an example. 30+ year old stars/all stars are traded every year, they never win it all as the best player on their team. Edit: Lebron signed in LA as a FA, so there is pretty much zero examples of a 30+ year old being traded and winning it all as the best player in 80 years of the NBA, there is your sample size.
Jeez. They better not be great picks, then. Maybe this year's #10 along with Sengun. Obviously I'd prefer to find some sucker to take Jalen Green instead....
Why would I go back through the entire history of the NBA to try to find some dumb spurious correlation between "draft" vs "trade" - George Mikan, traded , Alcindor drafted but wait, Kareem was traded! Hmmm. Now let's normalize for draft vs trades and...blah blah blah I can actually just watch the Houston Rockets and realize they don't have a single elite player and that Sengun and Green are unlikely to become them. It's not hard! Lol.
I can't see if you traded picks too but if it's Jalen, Tari, Jock, Cam and Holiday? Fred - Amen - Dillon - Giannis - Alpe Reed - ? - Tari - Jabari - ? Honestly that sounds pretty ugly to me.
Kareem was traded to the Lakers at 28, you cant even go back 80 years and find a single player over the age of 30 that was traded and was the best player on a championship team. That should be telling. It would make sense to follow a model that has worked at least once in 80 years.
It does tell me something about your numeracy and superstition. In 80 years No team has ever won a title with a French center being their best player - guess the Spurs should trade Wemby!
