We need to turnover the roster, we have redundant pieces. SF is overcrowded with Amen, Tari, Brooks, Cam- 2 can go. We are weak at PG and SG, could move some of them. Our roster is unbalanced, trade some pieces to balance it out. DD
That is true, but the league is also going after stable guards, good decision makers who can handle playoff ball. He is also a good defender and can erupt for 30 points. This is much better than vet minimum.
That is precisely the outdated thinking that kept him on the squad....he erupts like 1 out of 15-18 games...... And he only seems to be solid because a lot of the other guards on the Rockets are so unreliable, up and down, inconsistent. If the Rocket had Murray, Brunson, even a taller combo PG or anyone, he would not be here. Also I dislike the bromance he has with Udoka, or the co-dependence of Udoka who plays him 40 minutes.
You are talking about starting players, even stars. There is plenty of room between starters and end of bench vet min guys. Fans just have extreme views of their players. If a guy is not a franchise player, he should be shipped off the team (Jalen). Or if he's not a good starter, he must be a scrub (Fred). Conley is 6'0 and 37 years old. He's still an important part of the Wolves team. Only last year (36) did he sign a min wage contract. Not saying FVV is on Conley's level. Just saying that small guards who can handle an offense without losing the ball, play defense, and shoot open 3s still has a market. I'm positive that if the Rockets let Fred walk, he'll be able to sign somewhere for more than vet min for 3-4 years.
People make the mistakes that they think during a heated Playoffs or during a heated Playoff Push is the best time to criticize FVV..... It is not, this is the best time to do it..... make no mistake the Offseason is the best time to do it. You don't deal with FVV as your first domino stone, you deal with with Giannises of the league.....and FVV is only the 3rd or 4th domino to fall..... And nope, I still don't think he is the future.......you are arguing for arguing's sake to keep a what normally would be a 4th or 5th option.....he isn't worth all the fuss.
Maybe there is a misunderstanding. We agree that he is not the future or he should get 30 minutes a game. But that doesn’t demote him to a vet minimum. I am not savvy with contract numbers but 20 doesn’t sound too much for fvv .
If you are willing to trade Amen, you are absolutely confirmed as the worst player evaluator of all-time.
Vicious cycle, the more they play him the more the young guys are dependent on him. Freddie is a unique PG that he doesn't shoot many floaters, he doesn't throw lobs to the Center, he doesn't run fast and test the waters inside the paint...... He chucks and runs the Pick and roll, if you like that, fine. He slows everything down to a snail's pace. He is sort of that coward PG that plays it safe until his trigger happy self is shooting threes in the clutch.
Can you imagine Alpi with an offense like the Warriors predicated on so much off ball movement? Good lord what he would do.
Okay, I get it. You don't like Fred. That's fine. Your posts sounded like I am propping him up as our future starting PG. I said none of that. And you seem to be very passionate about getting rid of him., claiming that he's a vet min kind of player. That's pretty extreme. I was just saying that I wouldn't mind having him as our backup PG with a reasonable contract.
Has nothing to do with that, Stone leaking interest in Giannis is exactly to give in to the powers in the franchise that do not like Sengün. Green has his fans here but they are in the minority now. So changes are coming, we should be better prepared to embrace it.......Fred is on his Cancun trip - expect 10 million a year or GTFO.....type of deal. I agree, I would feel much better knowing he lost 30 million having an abysmal shooting season. I am old but I have nothing against big changes. Seems weird af by posters to call out for the heads of Cam and Reed Sheppard but no word of Frederick Van Vleet.
I’m fine with that. You don’t trade Alp, because we aren’t deep there, especially with the best young center in the game
I don’t want FVV back at 20m, because Ime will still play him monster minutes. If I was confident that Ime would make him a backup, I’d be fine with it. He’d probably be one of the best backup pg’s in the league. He is bottom five as a starting PG.
I agree 100% but Ime will not let go of his security blanket completely although I expect he will slowly start letting Reed play more and more.
He is forced to .....Cocaine Curry not building up value and staying a Zero is not an Option going forward..... VV is a known commodity for years now......no surprises other than his horrific shooting and no finishing around the hoop here.
That sounds all well and good, but you are not going to get a 2 way starting guard who can shoot by trading away Tari, Brooks and Cam. Anyone available in a trade for that price plus a pick or 2 will have some major red flag. The issue is no one knows what the Rockets actually have in Amen or Reed. Because of that lack of knowledge, it is impossibly to know what "limited' players would still fit with the team as a whole going forward. Til then, Ime has to self scout and learn to be way more flexible with his rotations, and bring in an assistant with an actual offensive system. Otherwise, none of your roster turnover will matter.
Lets assume that FVV is gone, and we are left with Reed, Amen & Jalen to take the PG minutes. If we modified our offense to run through Sengun at the top of the key (like Joker in Den), could those 3 successfully hold down the PG position if they were just asked to bring it upcourt and get it to Sengun? Or does losing FVV automatically mean we need to go get a starting PG to replace him?
Yes they are capable of bringing the ball up the court however I believe Reed will emerge as the main PG in the next year maybe two. We will benefit from having three high BBIQ players (Alpi, Amen, & Reed) in our starting lineup.
I made a post not long ago of how too many of our players skills overlap… so then the only diff when you subbing is (energy that day / are shots falling) FVV - too small, can’t finish in paint, slow pace Reed - too small, hasn’t shown he can finish in paint, gushy JG- small frame; can’t draw fouls, no floater/midrange, no alpha dog energy Amen- can’t shoot at all, can’t dribble under pressure, can still be very out of control trying to create, can’t hit FTs DB- can’t create, can be selfish, defense is starting to fade, misses bunch of layups Tari - can’t create, can be selfish, brain dead fouls often, misses bunch of layups Bari - can’t dribble, doesn’t demand ball, needs to get stronger in post Alpi - can’t shoot FTs, doesn’t do well with physical bigs, misses bunnies, no midrange, no 3pt Cam - selfish, young, black hole, no defense all teams and players have flaws… but we don’t have players who strengths overlap players their on court with weaknesses
We seen it when FVV was out this year - our offense already runs through Alpi at top of key…JG will manage the majority of bringing ball up court after made baskets - Amen will off rebounds I expect our turnovers to go up slightly..
