I genuinely feel like he has more of a psychological issue than any deficiency in skill at this point to be honest. He's got the ability, he flashed WAY too much for it to be flukes. We've outgrown his development though, maybe he can keep growing and breakout at some point, but we're ready to go now. As far as I'm concerned we either move him for somebody more reliable if we don't have to lose anything else, or if we do we keep him and run him off the bench until either 1.He redeems his trade value or 2. He actually earns the starter spot with consistency. I'm done rooting for him outside of the greater rooting for all Rockets players though, I'm always team first.
Linsanity notably happened exactly one time, and one time only. That's why they gave it a name. Jalen goes on Linsanity runs like 2-3 times a year, every year. There's really nothing like it.
I genuinely think he's a big argument for doing psych evaluations of draft picks tbh. As somebody who suffers with anxiety myself, he looks like he probably does too and it seriously affects his game. It's such a weird phenomenon. Up until Cade blew up, even with his struggles Jalen was so far above and beyond any of his peers in huge performances, whilst also being one of the bigger disappointments to fans. So crazy.
Lin's "explosion" was more amazing not because it's an elite achievement but because Lin was a nobody before it happened. He exploded to the scene when no one thought he would even be an NBA caliber player. Jalen was a #2 pick in a pretty good draft. Green is touted to be a franchise player, a numero uno. If Jalen was an undrafted guy making his way from the g-league to the rotation of a good NBA team and had a March Jalen kind of performance, he would be a good story to tell. Expectation is always an important factor in how a player is perceived.
For sure, but that reinforces rather than refutes my point. My entire point was "why are you comparing Linsanity to Jalen Green, they're completely different."
Well, because it happened there is no Jalensanity not because it happened often..... Plus virtually all layups and not many 3s.
Good thinking, and there was a culture thing with being the second or third full Asian American to be in the NBA and first to ever achieve that.
Young Jeff Green, in his pre-uncle days, was a similar conundrum. Everyone was baffled how he could put up 30 one night, then have several single-digit games in a row. He never did become the star that many predicted (#5 pick), though only 3 guys from that 2007 draft have scored more points than he has.
If I remember correctly, KD, Harden and Russ all arrived and Uncle had to go to the Celtics.....even Ibaka become more valuable than him. His best scoring came playing for the Celts. Reminded me of that sucker Josh Howard with more athleticism.
He is only disappointing for those who built up such high and lofty expectations for him instead of accepting him for who he is. Think about it. These people held him to these strict standards demanding he play at a level in accordance to their standards even if these standards weren’t always realistic or fair. This is why some people hate him. They felt he was a high lottery pick and owes them greatness. They felt he was entitled. They felt the team favored him and not Sengun in those Silas years. This is the source of the resentment. But other players like Sheppard were already deemed a great player and future star after 1 summer league game. Entitlement? Sengun has been a very mistake prone player in his 4 years in the league and his numbers declined across the board but yet still seem as high IQ and often not critiqued. Entitlement? I am not disappointed in Jalen at all. He has always been a good player to me. Not great. Not elite. I had no expectations of him. I accepted what he gave and assessed him objectively every year. He has a lot to work on to be an elite player and can be frustrating to watch at times. But What I’m proud of is he’s grown into a player that makes winning plays. I can’t say he’s fully a winning player but he makes a lot of winning plays and has shown the desire and work ethic to get better on both ends. Hopefully he pans out but he doesn’t owe me or any of you anything. If he doesn’t work out then great! Maybe he can go somewhere and win a ring. He is who he is for better or worse.
Looks like the Jalen Green Experience is coming… to an end I think next season will be his last if he doesn’t change
Nope, I was one of the biggest homers here. Your narrative doesn't apply to me at all, I'm more disappointed in Jalen than I've been in almost any player in my lifetime.
If there were no expectations then there would be no disappointment. Are you saying you had no expectations?
Are you not disappointed in Jalen's performance in the playoffs? Apart from game 2, what did he do to provide winning plays in the playoffs.
The Thunder also bet on Serge Ibaka and traded Harden and were rightfully ridiculed for the next decade. Let's not make the same mistake.
I don't even have to scroll back into history ......Mathloom and Fchowd both declared the work ethic of Green as Mamba Mentality.....go from there....lmao.
I think it was paying Serge Ibaka, Jeff was traded to the Celts 1-2 years prior to Harden exit....... Yes, once upon a time Ibaka was a blocking presence. Jeff's role just diminished with Harden's ascension.
