We need to talk about Sengun's offense this season

Why would anyone assume Green would be better? He's never been good to begin with.

I think Sengun is a 22 year old fringe star level player....despite being surrounded by a non-shooter in Amen, and the 3 worst scoring full time starters at the other 3 spots in the entire league.

I think if you moved Amen to SF and brought in league average scoring players are the remaining 3 spots, the team is still playing in the playoffs right now.

I think the better question is why you seemingly want to tailor the team around the least efficient scoring full time starters in the league.....how does that make any sense to anyone but maybe Ime?

The whole, "we should replace our best player with someone else to cater to absolutely terrible players" idea is probably the weirdest take possible.

Yeah, in my original post, I mentioned that there were multiple reasons. I also agree that a Giannis centric team would require a major teardown and I dont see us going that direction.

Most likely case is we make some minor to medium moves and wait longer for a star that fits.

You know the guy that would really fit? Quentin Grimes. Good defender, he can shoot it and he's a big strong guard and he can get his own shot. Aquiring him might be tough though. He's on the last year of his deal and he makes under $5m. We would have to overpay, which is fine to s point. All of Phillys salary is tied up in 3 guys so matching salaries while still giving them good assets gets tough. He only really broke out for half a season and he's going to be a FA so there's that too but Grimes, Amen and Brooks on defense would be nice.

I said that we don't have a star. How am I advocating building around anyone. Btw Green is not even the least efficient starter in our starting lineup. His efficiency is virtually the same as Sengun's too. They were both bad.

You didn't answer my question. Do you think Sengun surrounded by average players makes us a contender?

As for the reason that someone may think that Green might do better without a center camped in the post? Maybe the 22 games that Sengun missed at the end of the '24 season. Green was much better, no?

We could have just drafted him....but Stone drafted Jalen Green's boyfriend instead with the pick right before he was taken.

Using just the picks we ended up with, we could have taken Mobley, Sengun, and Grimes in the same class. Of course, there's no way we'd have been terrible the next several years, so there would be no Jabari or Amen, They'd still have been able to get Reed Sheppard though.

You are talking about moving the best player on the roster because you think it would help Jalen Green....one of the worst starters on our team.

Sengun had a history of fairly efficient scoring....with Jabari at PF to help space the court and try to make up for the offensive disaster that is FVV, Jalen, and Brooks. Last season, they replaced Jabari with Amen, a non-shooter, and it really hurt Sengun's scoring efficiency. A one year drop because is one thing, Jalen, Brooks, and FVV have been some of the least efficient scorers in the NBA for years now.....there's nothing you can blame that on other than them just not being good.

Basing an opinion that Sengun hurts Jalen on a brief hot streak....that partly occurred with Sengun still on the court is....well, it's a take alright.

Sengun was on the court for another of Jalen's brief hot streaks this season....sorry my guy, there's no correlation whatsoever.

Jalen is good when he goes on brief hot streaks and is ass the rest of the time. That's ALWAYS been the case.

That happens to all teams. How many teams could have drafted Kawahi or Jocic.

Mobley isn't the main guy for a franchise. He's certainly valuable if you have a good team, but he's not going to carry a team. At the time, that's what we were looking for.

    You are misunderstanding.

In no way, shape or form am I or have I ever advocated building around Green.

What I'm saying us you don't get rid of most of the team to try to optimize a guy that isn't going to take you to a title. The Green comment was to show that you could improve any single player if you built the team around them. You were suppose to realize that while it may improve Green, we still wouldn't be a contender so it would be foolish. Same for building around Sengun Apparently you didn't get that. My bad.

He'd be either the best or second best player on the Rockets right now....and he just won his first DPOY.

It's so weird that you consistently attempt to tear down quality players and try to prop up garbage like Jalen.

When you are getting rid of 3 guys who are the absolute least efficient scorers that are full time starters at their positions in the entire league, that's something you should do no matter what. They are terrible.

So it's not so much building around Sengun and Amen as it is just getting rid of trash.

You don't build a contender by dumping one of 2 total quality players on your entire roster and keeping the trash.

Thats all great but you were doing it around Sengun. You're aware that he's one of the least efficient guys at his position too? If you're that convinced that we should get rid of the inefficient players, shouldn't he go too?

I don't believe that we make a major move - and swapping out 60% of your starting lineup is a majoe move - until we get a #1 guy and then build around him.

I would love to pick up Grimes--I doubt that he is going to be able to come anything close to his little "Linsanity" streak of games where we ran into him, but I do think he is a very good shooter and a solid defensive player. It's possible he could be Mikal Bridges-esque moving forward.

Sengun was already having a tough time when Jabari was starting. Amen had nothing to do with it. The truth is, Sengun lives in the paint with 4-foot hooks and soft little bunnies, that’s his whole game. And when that stops working? It’s on him. You can’t pin that on anyone else.

I agree with this, but I do think he has the work ethic and bbiq to correct his weaknesses. If we don’t do a blockbuster deal Amen, Sengun, and Jabari are our core. Jalen still has a chance to elevate his game and be a part of it, but this upcoming year is his last shot with this team. His work ethic has convinced Ime that he is worth the effort.

He has a history of more efficient scoring, last season that fell off a cliff.

There are multiple factors that likely added to it.

The added defensive intensity likely made his legs significantly more tired.

The embarrassing group around him on offense made it to where he was the only quality player which makes it MUCH easier for defenses.

The complete incompetence that is Ime's offensive gameplan made it much easier for opposing defenses.

The spotlight on Sengun as the Rockets best player caused defenses to key in more on him.

Either way, Sengun has a history of efficiency, that suggests he could return to efficiency. That's not the case for FVV, Brooks, and Jalen.

quoting your inner troll self should feel shameful. Sengun is lazy, but still has more work ethic than any of his teammates. period. pls quote "sponsored by fingernails Jalen stans" / "kpj" / "jalen & clutchfanz firemen calendar members in Udoka, Clutch and Dakota" / "yoga chick fcker Jab" / or "mr. negative plus/minus dudes" squad.

new trolls, remember, dont forget to switch your secondary accounts before posting under your name, and also don't be a herd sheep, become the herd dog.

Oh, so that’s the excuse for why his offense fell apart? Come on. Since when did having to play defense turn into a hall pass for bricking shots? And Jalen Green didn't have to play with defensive intensity?
You said the same item twice like if you repeat it enough, it'll become true. But here's the thing: Jalen Green? He was the one drawing the double teams, more than Sengun, in the regular season and in the playoffs. The guy you've been dragging, over and over again had the same true shooting percentage as Sengun. Not worse. Not better. The same.

And in the playoffs? Sengun posted a 49.1% true shooting percentage. The rest of the team? 57.6%. So if you're looking for who actually showed up, you might want to rethink the storyline.

So wait, was Ime incompetent last year too? Are we really doing this? You're actually pinning Sengun’s inefficiency on Ime Udoka now?
