Westbrook isn’t 6’11, has a much better handle.
He’s also not an all NBA player and hasn’t been in years. Kinda proves my point.
LeBron is a far more skilled ball player than Giannis, he’s also an anomaly.
The exception rather than the norm.

Giannis couldn’t beat a Pacers team that is far less talented than Dubs.

Giannis had no help. You can’t play 1 on 5. Take a look at their roster and tell me which one of our starting 5 would you trade for one of the other players on the Bucks other than Giannis. The Pacers are actually more talented than GSW anyway. Made it to the ECF last year and may do it again.

Look at who he’s playing with. Considering he didn’t have dame (or a shell of himself the few games he played). How many games does that team win if they play a full season without Giannis. 10? 12?

Giannis Amen Jabari Tari Reed, and maybe Whitmore off the bench, can be a championship caliber team. Giannis turns 31 in December, and he'll never be a good shooter, but plug in the 30-12-6 he gave his team last year and it's a pretty compelling fit.

Alternatively, do everything possible to keep Sengun and you might have to give up the rest of our farm. Sengun Giannis Amen, but no Tari Jabari or Reed, doesn't sound as threatening to me. For one thing that's 3 non-shooters out there now.

I would say the ideal of this offseason is to get Giannis (and keep him away from San Antonio) at as low a price as you can afford. But the second place option would just to keep everyone together and bring it back. I am not as enthusiastic as others about keeping FVV and Adams on the team. They're both old, and I just think it's diminishing returns to expect they'll even do what they did for us this year. Even if we take a step back in W's and L's next year, I would really want to play Reed starters' minutes just to see what we've got in him. Certainly he'll be a much better shooter than FVV, but the bad part will be his defense. Still, he fits so seemlessly next to Amen in ithe scenario that they're both vets who have fully realized their career arcs.

it is certainly possible that the Rockets propel to the top of the WC after a Giannis trade, especially if we keep Amen and Jabari and continue to add some shooting

I think we’d be a 58-62 win team, and I’d love our chances against OKC and the rest of the West

our defense is already at a championship level…it’s our offense and lack of star power/#1 option that is holding us back

We are not playing 3 on 3. Indiana is the better team. Minnesota is going to sweep GSW.

what is written is a bit funny, of course you can trade giannis with alperen but when giannis comes this team will not be champion, will you be champion with tari eason jabari jalen green reed? giannis is a superstar but look who he was playing with when he became champion? basketball is not nba 2k, if you are adding giannis to your roster with a trade you cannot have a single player on your roster who is not a shooter

Yes to this. We would also need to jettison FVV as he slows the offense down. I really don’t think it is going to cost as much in personnel to get Giannis if he forces his way out. We have the best quality of picks in the league and would only need to include either Sengun or preferably Jalen. If it is Sengun it may only take 3-4 picks and we would still have Jalen, Dillon, Reed, Tari and this year’s FRP from Phoenix as trade pieces to add more shooting.

Also, GSW just played the Rockets. They won, but it would not surprise me if they are worn out. Also, Draymond already has 4 techs and 2 flagrant points.

They really believe Giannis wouldn’t change a thing in this series. It sounds made up, but it’s not.

Do you envision Giannis at the 5 in Houston? He's said he really doesn't like playing center, are we thinking he will just do it anyway if he comes here? They really unlocked his potential (and ultimately won a ring) playing him with Brook Lopez. Do you think we need to find a 3 point shooting center to play next to him? Also, does his fit with Amen worry you? He's shown in Milwaukee that he works best with 4 shooters around him, and it hasn't really worked over there when he has to share the floor with a non shooter. Do you think Amen is good enough that it doesn't matter? Or do you have a lot of confidence in Amen developing into a good shooter?

I don't mean to call you out and grill you on this but these are the issues that make me question the fit with Giannis. I haven't seen any pro-Giannis guys answer these questions. I think I can be persuaded on the Giannis trade if someone can give me good answers to all this stuff but I haven't seen it.

I envision him playing the 5 in spurts

they did win a ring with him playing next to Brook Lopez, but he had already been there a few seasons starting next to Giannis, and Giannis was still getting exposed in the postseason during that time…Giannis had also been making significant improvement each season prior to Lopez’s arrival

what pushed Milwaukee over the edge was replacing Bledsoe with Jrue Holiday and adding guys like Bobby Portis

We would probably ultimately need a spacing big next to him which is why my eyes would be on someone like Naz Reid in free agency or via S&T. I admittedly don’t know our cap situation in detail atm or how much space we could generate by doing things like declining Fred’s PO for example, but we could offer Reid the starting spot he’s not getting in Minnesota while still playing on a team trying to contend.

his fit with Amen slightly worries me, but significantly less than if we were trying to fit him next to Sengun

while Giannis works best surrounded by 4 shooters, I don’t think it’s some sort of requirement for him…Giannis, Amen, and 3 shooters for example isn’t a death knell

I don’t have much faith in Amen being a good shooter, but I don’t think he necessarily has to be…maybe he becomes a decent midrange shooter tho

Amen started off this series against GS pretty rough, but the last 4 games he went 29/53 from the field (55%) and averaged 20 ppg…mind u, GS was the #1 ranked defense in the league post-Butler trade, and this was him as a non-shooter playing on one of the worst shooting teams while having to chase around Steph Curry all game

he gets his in transition, he’s an excellent cutter, he can still drive to the rim and finish even tho dudes sag off of him due to his overwhelming athletic gifts kinda like Giannis…I’d rather have that next to Giannis than Sengun trying to post up so he can do 5 different moves just to get off a baby hook or a missed flamingo

we would have to hope that Reed Sheppard if not traded and Jabari pan out as shooters and Stone would have to add some more shooting via trades and free agency

but even with all this said, I’m not foaming at the mouth to acquire Giannis…just that if we are going to, I have no issue whatsoever giving up someone like Sengun

BUT COULD YOU BE ABSOLUTELY 100% SURE YOU WOULD WIN 3 CHAMPIONSHIPS, OTHERWISE NO DEAL

seems like that’s the sentiment around here…or no deal unless it’s something perfect

we got people on here talking about we need to hold out for Ant or Jokic…if that’s the type of player you’re waiting for then

We’re hoping somebody pulls a Nico?

people talking like we’re guaranteed some 10 year window because our guys are in their early twenties

Rockets ain’t been to a finals in 30 years, and have only been to 2 WCF since 1997…this sh*t is hard

Just swapping Giannis for Sengun doesn't fix our weak outside shooting--but it does give us a true #1 option, offensive engine to close out games, and makes our defense even better. I think this team + Giannis with no other changes could maybe make it to the WCF. Championship would require an implausible amount of luck.

The more interesting question is whether we could win a championship with Giannis + another move or two. Like, say we traded Alpi, Tari, Cam, and picks for Giannis, and Jalen + a pick to the Bulls for Vucevic and Coby White. Re-sign Adams, FVV on team-friendly contracts. Roster ends up looking something like this:

    Backcourt:
Amen Thompson, Coby White, Fred VanVleet, Reed Sheppard

    Forwards:
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Dillon Brooks, Jabari Smith Jr

    Centers:
    Nikola Vucevic, Steven Adams

    Is that team a contender?
