All he knows is to go up there and hack. It’s just not yielding the same results anymore.

His OPS dropped like 100 points from ‘23 to ‘24. He was pretty average after may last year.

I hope he finds the magic but it’s worrisome.

I remember a couple of seasons ago when Tavares was always getting on base as the 9 hole-hitter against us. Worth a shot? He's a switch hitter.

    I agree.

I still think the extension was the right move, but he is no longer an impact player.

He will most likely manage to be average the next 2 ( hopefully 3 or even 4) years and be really bad by his final season or two.

What year is the last year of his contract? 4 more years?

Suzuki continues to tear it up for the Cubs

The haul late to the game Dana got for 10 WAR Tucker was a massive undersell

Losing 15 WAR in Tuck and Breg and thinking Paredes and Walker will cover it is peak delusion and complacency

If you can't afford to resign someone, shop them early

This team cannot compete against any top 5 team in a 7 game series and like the past 2 years, only hopes to squeeze into the playoffs due to a weak division

Being stuck in the middle is a terrible place for a sports team

Correa won't be in the league after 2 years
    Springer is iffy
    Moving on were good decisions

Crane felt a loyalty bonus to Tuve, but we knew it wouldn't be a good contract from the beginning, particularly since he wouldn't be a 2B
Bregman is earning his $40m/year but has to keep up this pace over the course of 3 seasons
    These are hurting atm

The Astros strategy of legacy players works until it doesn't

But now they've compromised their ability to win with a contract that's out of place on a mediocre team with no farm system in sight

Gotta be ruthless in this game

    Give it up

How many of us need to tell you and how many times that this is a ridiculous take.

    1) Suzuki has a full no trade clause and was willing to void a trade to the Astros.

    2) He is a poor outfielder and Yordan and/or Altuve have the DH spot full for the next 4+ years.

3)Tucker is not a 10 WAR player. There is no such thing as a 10 WAR player.

Babe Ruth was a slightly less than 9 WAR player.
Aaron Judge is a less than 8 WAR player.

Kyle Tucker has a career high of 5.9 WAR
He is currently on a pace for less than 8 WAR.

    4) the return Brown got for Tucker is much better than any deal that would have included Suzuki who has a career high of 3.5 WAR.

    5) The American league is much much more winnable than the NL. This team has the best and deepest pitching in the AL and absolutely matches up with anyone.

    6) Paredes and Walker don't have to equal Tucker and Bregman's production. Each team has 26 players, not 2.

At what point does Brown and the front office decide they must trade from the pitching in order to improve an offense that needs some upgrades?

Brown, Framber, and McCullers are legitimate and proven 1-3. They just need to stay healthy and pitch up to history/expectations.

Some combination of Arrighetti, Blanco, Wesneski, Gusto, Blubaugh, Garcia, and Javier gives the team 10 legitimate starters.

Obviously there will be injuries, andcsome ate currently recovering but all are currently expected to be healthy before the past season.

They may need to roll the dice and trade an Arrighetti and/or Gusto and hope at least 5 of the other 8 are healthy and effective in order to make this offense MLB caliber because it's not there right now

Paredes right now has as much WAR as Mookie Betts & Corey Seager. Not shabby for a years younger player

Rangers traded prime age 10 WAR year Joey Gallo midseason to the Yankees for Josh Smith, Ezequiel Duran, and 2 JAG prospects (Space Cowboys legend Glenn Otto). Astros are doing decent on Tucker deal so far

It's tough to see what's happened to Correa. He always played his heart out here and was a great player and clubhouse leader. Springer was the same as Correa but he's having a solid year

    You're right though

Why do y'all think Correa won’t be in the league in two years?

I've only seen one person say it. He's still playing elite defense and he's got plantar fascitis in his foot. He's not hitting. Maybe that's the end of his contract

His guaranteed contract runs thru 2028. He put up 4 fwar last year. Anyone saying he is out of the league in 2 years (it must be someone I have on ignore) is the purest form of idiot.

I don't understand either. Probably someone mad at him for absolutely no reason. Like you said pure stupidity. They also suggested Springer might be out of the league too

The Astros really need to turn it on. Their roster is not conducive to a rebuild, with several well-paid, aging players who wouldn’t carry much trade value and the rest of their roster made of either fringey big leaguers or guys with 3+ years of control left. They are built to contend, but have a farm system that does not look like it’s evolving to provide new stars. So they have to try to win with the team they have.

If they’re not within 3 games of the division on July 1 I hope they shop Framber, Abreu, Okert, Caratini, McCormick, and Dubon with the goal to come away with 2 Cam Smith level prospects and 4-5 lesser but still high ceiling prospects.

They’re in a tough spot and I hope Brown and Espada realize that while it’s never good to panic, this team is not built to come back like previous teams were; the next 7-10 games are absolutely crucial in defining this season’s outcome.

Springer is having a good year this year. The last 2 years he was trending toward this being his last contract, but if he keeps this up he can probably go year to year at 8-12M a year until he's cooked.

One nit with that about teams future prospects... They have a bunch of guys that pitch somewhere between Cy Young level and solid league average that make almost no money. If they are going to stay at 220M and the pitching staff is good that means they could actually pay some big money to a couple guys.
