For what it's worth, I don't hate Jalen at all. I think he grew this year, especially on defense, which I honestly didn't think he had it in him to do. Having said that, his overall inconsistency makes it impossible to build a team around him, and his sad performance in this playoff series is a shame that he's now going to have to live with. He was embarrassingly passive and his reputation no doubt took a big hit because he didn't exactly show a killer instinct out there. It's going to be a long offseason for Jalen Green.

I’m sure PHX would be happy to find a way to move Booker for Jalen. They have to cut salary big time.

Our offense is nonexistent. We rank the lowest in assist and it's not simply bc we can't shoot it's bc fvv sucks at generating open ez buckets.

We are paying fvv 40 million either he fking carries us in the scoring category all games or he is generating open looks for our players to shoot, hes doing neither.

U can replace green with a "better" sg, that still doesn't change the fact that our offense blows and fails to generate assists + buckets

And he'd better take this series extremely hard. He will be socially crucified everywhere, and it's entirely on him.

One more year will prove what? That he’s mentally strong? Nope. That he will be consistent? Nope. It will turn into a fools gold year when he starts playing well against trash teams when it doesn’t matter. Look at Amen in his second year. Look at the improvement in Sengun. But with Jalen let’s continue for five years to see what we already know. He’s had the longest leash on this team since he’s been drafted. Enough is enough.

Don't tell me to calm down when I'm replying to someone who's literally going "F*CK YOU!" as a single post in a quadruple series of posts yelling at me like a madman. Sorry if that makes you feel like I'm your dad.

What do you mean why is spacing a massive problem? Because spacing is a thing all basketball teams need in order to have a good offense. That's like saying why is poor rebounding or high turnovers a massive problem. I'm tired of defining spacing for people (not on you, I just get asked a lot), here's the chatGPT answer if you're truly interested:

    Definition

In basketball, "spacing" refers to the strategic positioning of players on the court to maximize offensive opportunities and create efficient scoring chances. Effective spacing does several things:

    • Opens Driving Lanes: When players are spread out, it becomes more difficult for the defense to clog the paint and prevent dribble penetration. This allows ball-handlers to drive to the basket more easily.

    • Creates Passing Lanes: Spacing provides clear passing lanes, allowing the ball to move quickly and efficiently around the perimeter and into the interior. Good passing leads to open shots and breakdowns in the defensive structure.

    • Facilitates Post Play: Proper spacing around the perimeter makes it harder for the defense to double-team or help defend the post player. This gives the post player more room to operate and score.

    • Improves Shot Selection: When players are well-spaced, they're more likely to get open looks. This improves the team's overall shot selection and shooting percentage.

    • Stretches the Defense: When shooters are positioned along the perimeter, it forces the defense to spread out and guard them. This makes the court bigger and creates more room for offensive players to operate.
There are multiple forms of spacing on the court such as horizontal spacing, vertical spacing and spacing in transition. When executed correctly, it becomes challenging for the defense to rotate effectively.

What can lead to a team having bad spacing?

    • Lack of Shooting: If a team lacks consistent outside shooters, defenses will be less inclined to spread out, allowing them to pack the paint and make it difficult to score.

    • Poor Player Movement: If players stand still or don't relocate after passing or driving, the floor becomes congested, and offensive opportunities are limited.

    • Overlapping Positions: Players occupying the same areas of the court can clog the lanes and create confusion, hindering offensive flow.

    • Poor Understanding of Offensive System: If players don't fully understand the principles and positioning of their team's offensive system, they may not be in the right spots at the right times.

    • Lack of Ball Movement: When the ball sticks in one player's hands for too long, the defense can easily anticipate and disrupt the play, leading to poor spacing and limited options.

    • Insufficient Floor Awareness: Players not being aware of where their teammates and defenders are on the court can lead to poor positioning and spacing.

    • Defensive Pressure: Intense defensive pressure can disrupt a team's offensive rhythm and make it difficult to maintain proper spacing. Teams that cannot handle pressure are more likely to make poor decisions and force plays, leading to congestion.

    • Individual Tendencies: Some players naturally prefer to operate in certain areas of the court. If these preferences aren't balanced with the needs of the team, it can lead to spacing issues. For example, if multiple players prefer to post up or drive to the basket, the floor can become crowded.

    • Fatigue: When players are tired, they may be less likely to make the effort to move into the correct positions, leading to spacing breakdowns.

    • Poor Coaching/Preparation: If the coaching staff doesn't emphasize the importance of spacing or fail to implement drills and strategies to improve it, the team is likely to struggle.
What is the outcome one should expect if the team has bad spacing due to very insufficient shooting and overlapping positions?

    • Inefficient Scoring: The paint becomes crowded, making it difficult for drivers to penetrate and score. The team will likely rely on contested shots and low-percentage plays.

    • Low Shooting Percentage: Because open looks are rare, players will be forced to take difficult, contested shots, which will lead to a lower overall shooting percentage.

    • Turnovers: With limited passing lanes and crowded areas, players are more prone to turnovers due to poor decision-making, rushed passes, and defensive pressure.

    • Difficulty Establishing Post Presence: Without spacing, it's nearly impossible to effectively feed the post. Defenses will easily double-team and deny entry passes.

    • Limited Offensive Flow: Stagnant player movement and poor spacing will lead to a predictable and easily defended offense. There will be little ball movement, and the team will struggle to generate quality scoring opportunities.

    • Frustration and Disconnection: Players may become frustrated with the lack of opportunities and the difficulty of scoring, leading to a breakdown in team chemistry and communication.

    • Easy Defensive Stops: The defense can easily anticipate the offense, pack the paint, and force turnovers, leading to quick and easy stops.

    • Inability to Run Offense: With poor spacing, it's difficult to execute any structured offensive plays effectively. The team will likely resort to isolation plays or forced shots.

    • Loss of Momentum: Teams that struggle to score consistently are more likely to lose momentum and allow the opposition to build leads.

    • Overall Losses: Consistently poor offensive performance will likely result in a significant decrease in wins. The team will struggle against even moderately skilled opponents.

I'll let the coach answer you about Jalen's job when they're gaming to double team him and get the ball out of his hands all series:

The one thing that kind of gets lost in all this: Jalen's contract is actually NOT a crazy one, especially not relative to regular season production. If we move on from him it won't be difficult to find partners.

But his value is legit at an ALL-TIME low right now, and I question the efficacy of making a trade for the sake of it. Good deals will come, if we need one. If nothing else, Jalen will play his value up--and we can go from there.

After the rage and the sorrow and the disappointment has subsided somewhat, I think there will be a lot more rational ideas on what the best option will be going forward.

What do you expect? Buddy is from california. Dude had everything handed to him, including a spot on this team. He’s never worked for anything. Hes a little prettyboy who gets everything he wants, without effort. Even on this team, Alpi had to work for his starting spot while Jalen was just handed it.

Truly mind boggling how hard he fell off offensively after we clinched 2nd seed.

Anyone on this board that thinks Ime is a bad coach is not a smart person. There are some valid critiques of certain stuff he does but to pretend he is an awful coach after where we are after 2 seasons is ridiculous

It’s true that his value after that dumpster fire performance took a nosedive right this second but in a couple of weeks when calls are starting to be made, and the internal trade machines are matching salaries… few GM’s are going to oppose of him being the major salary piece coming back.

Keep in mind what that GM will really want is the phoenix picks anyways, but most GM’s will see value for Jalen on THEIR roster, and be able to envision how he can either help… or if it’s a team trading their star looking to rebuild… will see Jalen as a young talent that can help put your fans in seats during a regular season that they are looking to be in rebuild mode anyways.

ALSO- people need to keep in mind that the Rockets gave up significant value to get Kevin Martin who most of the league saw as the prototypical “best player on a bad team” guy. However Morey thought given the roster we had, he could fit in nicely. I think a lot of GM’s will see that kind of same potential as we saw in the risk/reward of trading for Kevin Martin.

But yeah… right now… this series hurt his value for sure… and likely solidified some opinions that he’s never going to be THE guy even if he is a good support player.

Jalen has value as a matching contract going to a team that wants to rebuild. He is fun to watch and can provide some hope to a bad team. He's also really likeable even if he's a low-IQ player.

I'm looking around the league to see who might be available that would be an upgrade. I think Tyler Herro is the most obvious choice. Jalen Green and the 9th or 10th pick in this draft for Herro? I think that's fair value.

Ty Jerome would solve some problems for us as well but he's a free agent.

Tyrese Maxey would also make sense if he comes available.

I will say **** YOU because you deserve it after the **** you were trying to give me for stating that Amen drives more effectively than Jalen. Here you are now employing Chat GPT to speak for you? You still havnt explained to me how it's possible that JG can stink up multiples games yet Amen has been effective in the same system that has bad spacing.

What you should do, is accept that Jalen is an average player and stfu.

BTW i rewatched the game on 2x speed and Jalen's possessions did not have double teams rushing up to deny him. He had multiple posessions with 1 defender on him and Draymond shadowing in the key to deny his drives which is normal for any half court defence. He had defenders in good positions limiting his driving lanes and angles, but he was NOT double teamed to get the ball out of his hands. He was NEVER rushed like the double teams we employed on Curry. He was passive and hesitant.

Obviously Jalen didn't show up this series and deserves criticism. I also think he deserves credit for the things he improved on throughout the season. At the end of the day it's still a skill issue for Jalen. I don't agree with the personal takes about his mentality, killer instict, etc. He just lacks a lot of the fundamental skill that good scores possess. This was always going to be an issue in the playoffs. He should definitely be available in a trade this offseason but I'd be open to seeing what improvements he's made if he's still on the team. Hell of a year guys.

He's mentally fragile. 2nd seed = higher expectations = more pressure and Jalen folded.
