Nah, not based on the actual data. Sengun needs to up his %, but he is playing overall better games and his dud was still far better than Jalen's, so I guess they are playing to their contracts. Like if Jalen went for 26 and 11, then 17 and 16, then 15 and 11, no one would be complaining, or at least far less.
Sengun can be both better than Jalen and not remotely putting up star performances at the same time, you realise that right? Jalen is putting up roleplayer numbers, I accept that's who he is now, no more arguments. Sengun's numbers are closer to roleplayer Jalen's numbers than any of the other star players in the playoffs, so is he also just an inconsistent role player or is he a star who's not performing? I'll let you tell me as you're the expert.
What role player has put up what Sengun has so far each game, with 3 straight double doubles? He hasn't played his best, sure, but he's played above role player level and much better than Jalen overall.
There is a lot of blame going around for the Rockets play in three playoff games. I have seen Jalen Green - Fred VanVleet, Ime Udoka, Alpren Sengun and even Amen Thompson blamed. I don't think it is really fair to blame any of these players - the effort is there, they want to win and they play hard. The reality is that this team lacks a real offensive hub/franchiser player to run the offense and carry it. The lack of shooters or creators makes it even more difficult. So, guys like Green, Sengun, FVV or Thompson try to fill the role - and they typically fail. The roster is poorly constructed in that a lot of the high lottery picks made do not fit with each other - and there was no real central brand or style of play when these players were picked, the only real culture occurred when Udoka took over. The Rockets have talented players - they have valuable players and overall they work very hard - but until someone is brought in or emerges as a true bulwark - this team will be a regular season team.
Zubac has 3 double doubles with 18.8pts to Alpi's 19.3. Pretty damn close tbh, Sengun is not performing like a star player at all.
Let's do basketball analysis. Why didn't the team take advantage of all the 4 on 3 advantages that Green created? Why is a mere okay player like Green receiving Curry type defensive attention and being face guarded 90 ft from the rim? .
Zubac isn't asked to create any offense ever. He just runs a pick and roll with the greatest pick and roll player ever and catches and finishes. If we had James harden Senguns numbers would look much better. Instead we have fvv bricking shots left and right.
That's irrelevant to the discussion. Do Alpi's numbers resemble star numbers or roleplayer numbers so far? If those are his "star" numbers then he's not worth much more than roleplayer Jalen as a 1A tbh.
Okay good point but he also has one of the greatest distributors and playmakers ever alongside him. What do you think Sengun would be doing with Harden? Zubacs numbers are highly inflated because of this. Swap Zubac and Sengun. How much do you think he puts up on the Rockets? No where near the same numbers that's for sure.
So did you just ask me what our "star" player would be doing playing as a roleplayer for our former star player? Kinda proves my point more than yours, no?
You're missing the context. Sengun is asked to create offense without an elite playmaker like Harden, while Zubac thrives off easy looks next to stars. His numbers reflect a tougher role, not role player ability. Swap them and the gap would be obvious.
So the "star" generates roleplayer numbers by himself, but if we paired him with an actual star he'd put up better numbers? Sure, that's how that tends to work lol. If Sengun was the star you all think he was, he'd be able to put up star numbers without needing a superstar to do it for him, that's how it works.
He’s the teams leading scorer, so that’s the role he’s playing. If he’s going to fade to the background ein every tough game then they need to get a new leading scorer. The frustrating thing with Jalen, Amen & Sengun is THEY ARE CAPABLE, it’s all mental. We’re talking basketball not contracts. It’s all right there for them, they just have to take it.
He shouldn't be the team's leading scorer though, he's not that guy. The stars should be asserting themselves as the Alpha of the team and leading us to victories - they're not. The entire forum is b****ing about Jamal Crawford when Blake Griffin's putting up pedestrian numbers.
Sengun will be handed a million excuses until the end of time the bum in Jalen Green gets 10x the criticism of the guy who actually made the All-Star team and is labeled our “franchise player” make that backwards ass sh*t make sense “franchise player” Sengun went 7-18 from the field and 1-6 from the free throw line, yet all we heard about was Jalen Green’s performance post-game, the one who isn’t an All-Star or exalted as the franchise guy mind u, Jalen is the reason we actually won a game in this series while Sengun gave us 17 points on 6-15 shooting in game 2…that would’ve been nowhere near good enough to carry us to a win if Jalen hadn’t exploded for 38
Why didn't the Rockets take advantage of the 4 on 3 advantages that Green created? Because they are not a terribly good shooting team. The same reason they don't do a tremendous job of taking advantage of a high percentage of good looks created. I didn't say Green was a "mere okay player". He isn't an offensive hub which an offense can consistently run through. Green is a good player, and would likely be a more productive player with an offensive hub next to him that would create easier shots for Green. Why does Green get so much attention? Who else are they going to focus on? it isn't going to be Thompson or FVV, and Sengun is in the post most of the time. Green is the closest thing that the Rockets have to an offensive hub - but he isn't good enough to carry a team in the playoffs over a full series, at least not at this point, maybe he will be some day but after 4 years I think he is likely to be a #2-3 type scorer on a team that can lead a team when the franchise player isn't on the court. Every player and coach to ever play or coach has warts - the best bet is to put players into position to succeed and maximize their strengths. I think that is very fitting with this group at this point. There are a number of valuable and good players, they just need a juggernaut to help them get to the next level. There seems to be this perception by some that I either love or hate Jalen Green. It is neither, I think that he has become a good player - a long term starter with a chance to make some all-star teams if he is next to someone that can command gravity to give Green better looks and easier cuts to the basket. He is capable of being a 25 point a game scorer if put into a Booker type role.
Sengun averaging 19.3/12/4 is not role player numbers (1.7 steals, too). His FG% and FT% are bad, yes. But Jalen's FG% in his last five games are much worse: 28.6%, 30%, 0%, 20%, 52%, 36.4%.
