That’s not quite right. At the same age, Sabonis was in his third NBA season to Sengun's fourth. Domas was coming off the bench behind Myles Turner and Thaddeus Young and finished second in Sixth Man of the Year voting. A 22-year-old Sabonis was just more efficient across the board. He was much better from the floor, better from the free-throw line, a stronger rebounder, and his assist rate, while slightly behind Sengun's, was comparable. Sengun at 22 had a defensive rating of 107.4, but Sabonis at 22 had a defensive rating of 103.6. Now, to be clear, I wouldn’t want to build around Sabonis either. But if Ime Udoka had him, I’m guessing he could hide Sabonis defensively just like he’s trying to do with Sengun. The bigger point is that you can’t pin your championship hopes on an inefficient, limited post scorer. That’s just not a winning formula. And listen, I see this ruffles some feathers and I get it. That’s not my intention. I’m just trying to be honest about what I see.
According to Dwight Howard and Shaquille O'Neill he was a beast. I'm going to take the words of 2 of the greatest centers to ever do it over somebody pretending to be a Rockets fan on a forum, if that's all the same to you.
He was a 80s center playing in the wrong era. We all know he matched up great against traditional bigs, he was a wall you could not go through. But just like other walls you can go around them.. Like what are yall even saying. Did you watch him play? Saying he has weaknesses doesn't mean he wasn't good. But yes he was overrated by many here. Did he get abused by a pick a roll? Still have nightmares of Carlos boozer. Did he get shut down by people fronting him? Joel Pryzbilla, Eduardo Najera. Was he always injured? He only played 476 games in his entire career. He averaged 19 points 9 rebounds 1.6 assists for his career. Never led us on a deep playoff run. When sengun does this everyone flames him for having a bad game..... He made the Hall of fame for being the first good Asian player and also for what he did in Chinese league but overall as a rocket his career was underwhelming. Mostly due to injuries.
Sengun and Ime are the keys to the rest of this series. Jalen can’t create his own shot when he is swarmed. Sengun needs to take charge and Ime needs to play FVV off the ball. Even if Amen comes out star struck again, continue to ride him bringing up the ball and getting us into the offense more quickly. Jalen and FVV dribbling excessively 40 ft from the rim until there’s 7 seconds left on the 24 second clock is just not going to cut it. Dillon needs to get his head out of his ass with the fouls. Jabari and Tari need to be playing 35 mins each and FVV about 25 at most. Oh wait, I just woke up. What did I just say, FVV playing 25 mins? Yeah, right.
Your opinion has no weight. You are the biggest hater on our best player there is. But quiet as a church mouse when Jalen stinks it up. Clown
Alpi being the best rocket right now and him having limitations are not mutually exclusive. As much as some posters here don't want to except, both statements are true. He's the sole reason I hang out in this forum and I hope he'll get to franchise player level one day, but he admittedly is not there yet. And despite all his limitations, he is still the best player the Rockets have, including Amen, who in my book has the highest ceiling of them all. I know it sounds lame and it doesn't add anything to the discussion, but y'all are right –except the ones in my ignore list, which I won't reveal.
This was really a letdown game from Sengun. As bad as the whole team played, it's not about who "played the worst" or anything like that. Big players step up in these moments and if he's a big player he has to step up. Sure Jalen was bad too but Jalen already won us a game and this should've been the game Sengun won for us. If he played well we would've won that game, but he didn't. The missed open dunk, the missed shots from inside 5 feet, 1-6 from the free throw line...this is a win if he made shots that were totally makeable.
Yao Ming's achieved more than Sengun, it's not even close. Stop disrespecting Rockets legends to prop up Rockets who've achieved literally nothing so far. Seriously. Sengun averages 16 pts 6 rebs for his career, just because you're trying to use the numbers argument. I don't recall Yao struggling to put up 15 points for his first 2 seasons either. So yeah, wind it in.
Bricked a wide open dunk. Bricked countless open layups. Bricked 2 crucial free throws with the Rockets down 3. He’s mentally brittle.
lol sengun hasn't even reached the age Yao entered the league yet. And yaos first two years he averaged about 15 points a game so yes he did struggle. Which player were you even watching? Like yall get so defensive when the facts are in front of you. Like he had huge weaknesses we could never overcome. And that's 100% facts. So yes Sengun will easily be a better player than Yao if he isn't already. And when their careers are over it won't even be close, Tell me what Yao achieved in the nba? The rockets never came close to second seed with Yao leading the way and he had Tmac... yet a 21 year old sengun was able to get us there. Coach being too dumb to utilize him or even play him was a big reason Sengun struggled early.
I hate the way he reacts to every missed shot. It creates a downward spiral and his touch gets worse after every miss. Brother, you're not the only one missing shots.
I agree he missed a bunch of shots he should have made including a dunk. The whole team sucked last night except Jabari who should have played more.
But he's done this all year? I get the frustration, I criticized him for the same ****, but I'm not sure how you get to "mentally brittle" when he has been doing this same stuff in meaningless regular season games his entire career. It's not like this is out of character for him, or like the moment is too big, or the lights are too bright. This is just stuff he always does.
Nope, not at all. I don't think anybody here cares about what I write, forget about my ignore list. That was kind of the point. I was trying to make fun of taking ourselves too seriously and I thought the wink made it clear, but guess not.
