No it's not. It's rridiculous that you would derail an RIP thread about a great pope to talk about Trump and Vance

I heard one of those televangelist types got Vance to poison him. They were angry that he didn’t hate the gays enough.

    RIP :(

Many Catholics don't believe Protestants are "real christians"

Fundamentalists of all stripes are problematic. Pope Francis tried to fight against that, god bless him.

I haven't met any Catholics that believe that Protestants are not real Christians - out of like a billion Catholics, I am sure there are some do - possibly some of the really conservative fringe Catholics. Honestly, Catholicism is so large that mostly you hear Catholic sects bickering with other Catholic sects and basically no discussion of Protestants or Jews or other faiths. It is like asking Americans about their opinion on the battles in the Myanmar Republic, it just doesn't come up.

Not to say that there are no divisive figures in the Catholic church, history is riddled with them and there are still some.

Liberation theology was a huge influence of Pope Francis.

I was being polite. The Evangelical church I used to go to also said the same things. Some of them even went to Europe as a missionary project.

Tbf, Euro Catholics are def different than "Global South" Catholics in both culture and theological adoption.

Mt Irish in in-laws speak of the Prods quite often. And not in the most respectful of terms.
They consider them British by nature. Some carry the memories of the "troubles" to this day.
Not my fight I just sit and pretend to care while I down a Smithwick's.
