He just hasn’t taken that next step yet. These are the kinds of games where you’d expect him to have done his homework and figured out the defense. I’ve got a lot of love for the guy, but it’s definitely something to reflect on this offseason.
the sad part is, I don't know if it's something that can develop. It's def not an issue with his work ethic, he works hard. He's never shown to be that guy, ever, at any level. He dominated HS with his athleticism and he played for the ignite during covid and played for a losing team. It's always been about potential.
Warriors were constantly leaving him wide open at the 3 and he still bricked everything. We can't have opposing teams treating everyone as a non-shooter. Warriors tonight just packed the paint and caused a bunch of turnovers because we had so many bricks from the 3.
Teams have been doing that to the Rockets all season. They still won 50 games. The question is this was just a really bad shooting night for everyone or do they shrink when the lights get bright.
Yeah, you could see this all along he is a front runner, not a leader, and when challenged fades. Not a guy to build around, never will be. DD
I mean I get that people are focused on Jalen Green but Amen had his worst game in a long time offensively......
plenty of stars had a goose egg first playoff series. I'm more disappointed with the shooting of our veteran pg.
Meh. It's the first playoff game for all these young kids. I'll withhold judgment for now. If he never has a great game and we get bounced from the playoffs, sure. Might be justified to think this way. Not after one game though.
He doesn’t have a half court isolation skill based game like the great star players have. He’s reliant on his freaking athleticism and the occasional streak shooting. There’s a reason why Stone and co. wanted the clarity of a playoff series before making huge decisions but so far (still at least 3 more games albeit) it does look to be conforming what we know about Jalen as a fan of the rockets seeing him for several years now. Not a guy you can isolate in the half court with the game on the line. He’s a streak scorer who needs to get downhill to be effective. Not someone who has the skill to score when you got elite star defenders like Jimmy Butler all over you. Dont know if that means we gotta trade him but this team likely isn’t going anywhere in the playoffs if you need to rely on him as your number 1 iso option.
Jalen is too streaky to ever be a dominant postseason player. As much as people bash guys like Jamal Murray for being streaky, he’s usually a 45/38/90 guy at worst. Also i don’t think he has the proper mindset to be truly great. He can still develop that but it’s not a sure thing.
Well said. He has no creativity in his drives or in his game in general. If i can predict what he’ll do, so can elite NBA guys, obviously.
