Given their luxury tax issues, yes I think if the Rockets offered the 9th pick to the Wolves for a Naz Reid S&T, they will take it. Now the question may be do the Rockets want to pay Naz Reid and give up a young, cost controlled player. I'm inclined to say yes, assuming he is paid in the $30mil/yr range. That's within the scope of him being able to co-exist with Amen's max contract and some other future extensions that are coming up. Coby White I'm not so sure, and may depend on how he plays in the playoffs. Phoenix need win-now players while also shedding salary. Doubt they care so much about draft picks so much as guys on good contracts that can win now.
I'm saying that mostly in the historic sense of finding undersized guys who have to fight like dogs to compete. Stone has done a good job of getting bigger longer players of late but there are times where we have still been outsized.
No way Coby White goes for the #9 pick. Maybe the #4 pick. The Bulls would command 3 FRP's for Coby White or 2 FRPs and an upside swing. Young efficient SG on a great contract. Like if we offered Cam + #9 I don't think that gets it done. But that'd be ****ing awesome.
If we get the # 9 pick what would you give up to trade up to # 3 or # 4? I’m assuming #1 and # 2 are non starters.
Coby White is on a great contract in terms of his AAV, but he's essentially a one-year rental, about to get a big payday. So IDK. Cam + #9 sounds reasonable to me though.
I think there are a lot of good players in this draft, so there is no need to trade up. It's more likely that we trade the pick, I think.
Agree. If we're able to get Pick 1-4 then he's magic. Imagine Stone walking away from the Harden trade with Cooper Flagg this year and still more future picks. He would be the GM of the decade. I know the probabilities are low, but it's still fun to fantasize for now.
The number 9 pick has a value of multiple first round picks. If the Rockets were to say the 9th pick is available for draft capital they would get more than one first in return for it. Also, White is up for a contract extension after next season. Any team that trades for him is going to have to give him $25-30MM/yr.
Again I'm having trouble with where you thought even Morey's Harden days was trying to find undersized players. Look at his draft picks. Parsons, T Jones, White, Lamb, Capela, Dekker, DMo, Hartenstein, none of these guys are undersized. His trades/FA signings are also for the most part players with the right size for their position. Asik, Lin, Dwight, Josh Smith, Rivers, Beverley. CP3 and Tucker are undersized in name but not really in reality. Harrell would be the only rotation player post-Harden era that would be considered small and played undersized. Size has never been the Rockets issue. Can't beat the Warriors in the playoffs? Yes. Harden pulling up lame? Yes. But Morey liked size as much as any GM.
Yes, I'm coming around to the idea that the Rockets may just be better off trying to add Reid for a low price than spending a lot more on KD or Booker. He can definitely solve a lot of spacing issues that may help unlock Jalen and Amen's offense.
Couldn't find the random trade thread.... #9, Cam (showed out in LA), and our 2027 First for Austin Reaves.
Yes, but we also need a FVV replacement. I don't think RS is ready for that role and neither is Amen.
Reid has a player option for next year which he is 100% opting out. So this would be a S&T scenario where the Rockets re-sign or pick up the option for guys like Adams and Landale and Holiday to match salaries.
To me the choice to go for Naz Reid is mostly that he's available, due to the Wolves being in apron hell. If Chicago will trade Coby White for the 9th pick, I'd also think long and hard about that, especially if they can work out an extension before the trade that reasonable. I'm just not sure Chicago actually wants to trade White.
