Trump seeks to revoke immigrants' Social Security numbers

By Ted Hesson and Daniel Trotta
April 10, 20259:21 PM EDTUpdated 17 hours ago

WASHINGTON, April 10 (Reuters) - The Trump administration aims to convince some immigrants without legal status to self-deport by adding them to a database of dead people, thus rendering their Social Security numbers inoperable, an administration official told Reuters.

Immigrants who were legally admitted to the U.S. under the Biden administration but have since had their temporary status revoked would be added to the Social Security Administration's "death master list," which is normally used to identify dead people who should no longer receive Social Security benefits, said the source, who requested anonymity to discuss the plans.

Social Security numbers function as tax identification numbers in the U.S. and are required to receive government benefits. They are also used for many private financial operations such as opening a bank account or obtaining a credit card.

The scheme was first reported by the New York Times, citing documents it reviewed and six people familiar with the plans. The goal is to pressure migrants to self-deport by effectively canceling their Social Security numbers and cutting them off from financial services, the Times reported.

"President Trump promised mass deportations and by removing the monetary incentive for illegal aliens to come and stay, we will encourage them to self-deport," Assistant Press Secretary Liz Huston said in a statement, without directly addressing the plan.

The Times, citing documents, reported that the names of more than 6,300 convicted criminals or "suspected terrorists" have been added to the government blacklist.

The use of the "death master list" is the latest example of President Donald Trump seeking to expand the use of sensitive personal data to further his goal of reducing the number of immigrants living in the U.S.

On Monday, the Treasury Department, the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Homeland Security finalized an agreement under which taxpayer data will be provided to federal immigration authorities to help them locate migrants.

It's not funny, but the dumb tariff tit-for-tat hike finally hit someone on the head. Like, oh crap, a 145% tariff will sink multiple companies, cause huge layoffs and chaos. Yes, political chaos.

    Or

This yanking around... for what? Did Nvidia, Apple, ... gave someone Millions last week?

Trump administration says it will exclude some electronics from reciprocal tariffs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Trump administration late Friday said they would exclude electronics like smartphones and laptops from reciprocal tariffs, a move that could help keep the prices down for popular consumer electronics that aren’t usually made in the U.S.
It would also benefit big tech companies like Apple and Samsung and chip makers like Nvidia and sets the stage for a likely tech stock rally on Monday.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said items like smartphones, laptops, hard drives, flat-panel monitors and some chips would qualify for the exemption. Machines used to make semiconductors are excluded too. That means they won’t be subject to the current 145% tariffs levied on China or the 10% baseline tariffs elsewhere.

It’s the latest tariff change by the Trump administration, which has made several U-turns in their massive plan to put tariffs in place on goods from most countries.

The exemption seemed to reflect the president’s realization that his China tariffs are unlikely to shift more manufacturing of smartphones, computers and other gadgets to the U.S. any time soon, if ever, despite the administration’s predictions that the trade war prod Apple to make iPhones in the U.S. for the first time.

These illegals are scamming us by paying into social security and never being able to take out.

Just to better inform you. The government's mechanisms for auditing things like fake ss numbers only applies to the point of delivering entitlements, not at the point of receiving tax revenue. I hope you understand why that makes sense as you are an adult that types in complete sentences.

The government doesn't give two ***** if a bunch of old ss numbers are being used to pay taxes. Why would they?

Apple (Tim Cook) said the were going to invest in building plants in the USA. Keeping prices down until these plants are built seems like a good idea to me.

Repeat this 10 times in the mirror and it might come true. That's what affirmations are right?
