Is that guy still preaching the same rhetoric? I don't block many people but after a few exchanges with the guy who said Reed has "poor shot mechanics" I just gave up. Reed is showing glimpses of what he could be. That's all you can ask for the vast majority of rookies. It's a crazy small sample size but the numbers from his two starts are outright gaudy
He has a smooth 3p shot...I dunno, his college 3 percentage finally showing life the more comfortable and confident he becomes.
The Rockets shot 52% from the floor and 50% from 3… the offense wasn’t the problem at all. The problem was defense and going against Leonard and Harden and Zubac. FWIW Kris Dunn possibly the best defensive point guard in the league with Dru taking a step back this year.
You are correct that they shot well. But given the size disadvantage for the Rockets team out there, they were never going to really slow them on defense unless guys like Reed/Holiday and all emulated Patrick Beverly and there is no reason for them to risk injury trying to do that. Kris Dunn was definitely part of the issue and he is all-nba def team worthy, but he wasn't the only point of attack defender causing Reed problems. What frustrated me watching Reed was that it just seems like he was slow processing the defense and didn't seem to be bring up the ball or setting a play with a plan a, b, c, in mind. It was all react to what the Clippers were doing, which would spook him and get him to pick up his dribble. I fully get this was a game that the Rockets didn't need to win, they may have celebrated the night before for clinching the 2 seed, and they biggest thing was to avoid injury. Having said that Reed is highly unlikely to be in any playoff rotation so him getting injured is not that crazy. Part of what pushed him to the top of the draft was high level basketball processing that would make up for his lack of size or athleticism. I guess I was just hoping for more progress in that department after a full season of practices, NBA strategy meetings, film study, etc. He definitely still has time to work on that, I was just hoping for more signs that he could legitimately be in the mix for back up PG next season. Right now that would still be a projection and honestly a surprise for the start of the 25-26 season.
The one thing I think is fair to conclude about Reed so far is that he has, as a rookie, a cautious disposition. Easy to contrast with Cam, who even as a rookie was anything but. The caution shows up in camping out at the arc, out of the play, when he doesn’t have the ball — and dumping off passes quickly when he does have it. But we don’t know yet how much more aggressive he’ll become in future years. Cam’s aggressive disposition has persisted in year two; Jabari’s cautious disposition is still going in year three. I’m hoping Reed will cut loose more as he moves into year two. It’s just hard to tell with these guys who never had a second year in college.
I don’t know - I think he looked good running the offense and scoring as well. Especially considering who was guarding him. Athletically I think he is good. He accelerates very well off screens and has solid body control. He isn’t as quick as some with his feet but off sets some of that with exceptional hands. He isn’t big- and wish he was 3 inches taller. Right now he needs to stronger in his lower body but with his build I think he can get stronger. He does have limitations with his reach and feet defensively but he can overcome or limit some of those. His aptitude is high offensively but not as high on defense.
I don't know if you watched him in the g league but he certainly didn't have a cautious disposition in those games. He was averaging 23 fga and 8 assists per game down there, so he's definitely comfortable dominating the ball, taking a ton of shots, and orchestrating the offense on every play. I think the "caution" you're seeing has to be based on coaching, and doing what he's been asked to do.
Reed is not playing NBA caliber defense tonight. About the only thing redeemable is the intensity in his fouls and no-layups mentality. I’m sure he’ll improve. I like his pedigree. His perimeter on-ball is quite good but the Lakers are showing he’s cake in the post. My real concern is Reddick will use this blueprint to study how the Rox are vulnerable to that - awful pg on big - mismatch the Lakers got at will in the first half. If they put a couple of fouls on FVV off those mismatches that’s trouble in a series.
Reed’s parent should talk to him tonight if he keeps being this passive. This is one of the few games where he has the rights to do anything without hurting the team but right now he is trying to be a nice guy. He got one more game against DEN and if he blew this chance to let the league/front office notice him I don’t know he’ll ever live up to #3pick of the draft
I'm just happy his 3 ball is going in now. That's the cornerstone of his game. Honestly it's up to the coaching staff to take advantage of that. If they still want him just standing around off ball that's on them. If we're not gonna treat it like an actual weapon he's not gonna be all that valuable for us. All the extra skills he needs can only come with experience and game reps.
In Reeds 3 starts, against 3 legitimate teams, playing alongside our scrubs and he's averaging 19.6 points on very solid shooting. Dude for sure could be starting with the A team.
Reed is finally trending in the right direction. I don't expect to see him anymore after the regular season ends, but hopefully he can continue that growth and be more of a factor next season.
I never hated on Reed, I just called it based on his play. If he played bad saying he doesnt deserve to be on the court isnt hating, its just based on performance. Reed was shooting in the 20s from 3 pt and 40s in TS, not sure why anybody OBJECTIVE will want him out there to lose us games or say that was a great pick at no 3. Now he is playing great Reed deserves praise. It is clear he took the time off injury to work on his shot mechanics, it is a lot cleaner and quicker now than before. I am glad he realized he needed to work his off instead of listening to all the sycophants telling him everyone is at fault besides himself for his poor play.
