FVV's team option deadline is 6/29/2025. There is a short window after Rockets' season (whenever it is) but before 6/29/2025 to swing a deal, say, with Suns to get KD.

Rockets: KD's last year of contract
Suns: FVV + its own pick in 25 back if it is top 4. FVV's option will be declined.

Is it a low value package for KD? Maybe, but it is what Suns need. By declining FVV's team option, they get away from the 2nd apron situation and provide a lot of flexibility moving forward. They get their pick back in a deep draft. There is no other team to provide an instant cap relief and a strong lottery pick. It will be last year of KD's contract, and they have to trade him to get some value back. Trading KD with 2nd apron will be very challenging and only contenders are interested. Suns just have very limited options of trading partners.

FVV will join back Rockets for MLE.

Gonna just come out and say it, straight-up: I would rather have a top 10 pick than KD. Dude has a year or two left in the league. He's not good enough to lead us to a championship. Either one of our guys develops into a top offensive option, in which case we don't need him because we're already really f***ing good, or they don't, and we should hope to pick such a guy in the draft or trade for one who's younger and better than KD. (In which case we need all the assets we can get.)

Honestly . . . I think we can get at least 75% of KD . . . out of Jabari

A side benefit: It is a good way to pay FVV less or let FVV go without burning the relationship for him to join back at MLE money.

Don't want any part of KD unless it's for like 20 mil a year. Dude is made of glass and COMPLETELY undependable not to mention he's old AF. Ill take drafting Maluach over trading for him.

    suns cannot decline fvv option

for the trade to be legal and approved by nba the option has to be picked up by the rockets for next season

I don't think we can renegotiate his contract to a reasonable price. I think Rockets need to let him walk and I think they will be fine next year without him. Resign Adams for sure, use the pick and run this lineup and move forward.

    PG - Thompson / Sheppard
    SG - Green / Whitmore
    SF - Brooks / Eason
PF - Smith / Draft Pick
    ..C - Sengun / Adams

That's 9 players from this season for continuity and growth. I think Uncle Jeff will probably retire. Holiday will get a decent payday elsewhere, Tate probably has some demand on the market and might be over what they want to pay.

I am pretty sure this is correct. The trade is attributed to the next league year. Went through this with the CP3 trade. In NFL there is open window that opens back up after the Super Bowl for released players/trades but again I think it is attributable to the next league year. FVV's contract is essentially over for this year after the February 2025 trade deadline.

I truly believe Fred is a declining player. I really like Fred, and believe his shooting will rebound next season, but health and declining play are likely to be issues moving forward. Absent the ability to upgrade the point guard spot this offseason, I’d sign him back on Dillon money for a reduced role, maybe a little more for 2-yrs with a team option. He could be a nice little bridge until Reed and Amen get better at running the floor. We should be willing to walk away from Fred if he wants to get overpayed again.

I know small guards decline quickly but can’t believe FVV declined so dramatically within a ****ing one year! CP3 at age 40 is still delivering meaningful minutes. FVV is just 31, smh.

The dream scenario for Fvv is to trade him for Jokic. Sengun has shown to play really well at pf. We can just run the double big all season with Jokic especially cuz he's a better shooter than Fred.

1- option has to be picked up not declined in order to trade him.
2- traded players can NOT resign with their original team that just traded him ( zydrunas ilgauskas rule )

On top of that we cannot trade the 25 pick until after it is taken, unless we secure a 26 pick in the deal or before the deal.

I think that's basically what the deal would look like but honestly if I was the GM, I would rather gamble on a top 10 talent in the draft than gamble on end of his career KD on a 1 year contract.

Don't get me wrong KD was still amazing this year given his age... but man... that's a huge risk that he could get injured or suffer a major decline which is imminent in the next couple of years. Meanwhile if anyone in the picks 8 to 14 range in this draft ends up being a star, AND the Rockets do not go to the finals next season with KD as their go-to-scorer, it's the type of thing that could haunt a franchise for years.

Given how strong this draft looks to me, if I was the Suns GM I would do everything in my power to get that 25 pick back from the Rockets to expedite my rebuild, and give myself a chance at keeping Booker and doing a soft rebuild vs tearing the whole thing down.

I expect the Rockets and Suns to have MANY phone calls in the coming weeks after the playoffs. Maybe there is a way for Stone to get KD, and maybe extract future picks for the 25 pick. Like a pay-day loan for the Suns. Something like that could be more palatable than just basically trading a top 10 talent in a decent draft for an aging KD at the end of his career.

The only benefit I see from getting KD is that this team is still desperate for a closer. When we had that slide in the middle of the season a lot of the games we were losing was because the offense died late in games and we don't have anyone who can give us instant offense.

If there are other closers who are younger that are available I would take them in a heartbeat. Our team is only truly missing that Kawhi Leonard / James Harden type of offensive threat who can get you buckets on their own at the end of games. Everything else with this team is perfect and its also 100% possible that one of our young players develops that killer mentality (probably Amen with a jumpshot)

This is officially a playoff team so it’s fair to ask… does Durant make this roster a champion?

I’d be hard pressed to make the argument affirming that opinion. Not only because it would likely take away some of the youth that got us to the dance, but because KD’s future performance is also a pretty decent size projection.

I’m easily in the category of folks who want to continue building through the draft. Getting top ten picks is a blessing and we should take all of the blue chips we can get. The “we can’t pay everybody” crowd seems to think they’re all getting maxed lol…

Giving that up for KD is a win now move. And if you don’t win THEN WHAT??? Everyone gets fired, traded and we start over again? That for the sake of 38 year old Durant is quite the pill.

Offer FVV a 20m 3 year backup guard contract/role. Live with it either way. If he doesn’t want it, there’s someone who does. Fred was always meant to be a bridge. We’ve crossed it.

Take the meager savings from Landale, Tate, Jeff… resign Adams and a backup guard…take the top ten pick.

FVV can't be traded and come back to the Rockets....for 1 year, I believe.

The rest seems ok, not sure about trading an expiring, but they might be able to work something out by changing the language a bit.
