Zach Lowe Hired By The Ringer The Ringer has hired Zach Lowe, who was laid off by ESPN last September. Bill Simmons, who recently signed an extension with The Ringer's parent company Spotify, made the announcement on his own podcast. Simmons and Lowe worked together at Grantland and the pair have appeared on each other's podcasts several times over the past decade. Lowe will begin podcasting for The Ringer with this week ahead of the start of the 2025 NBA playoffs.
They're just paying the guy that makes them money. There are certain writers that superfans like but that's a tiny niche audience. Hate it or love it, lot's of people tune in to see SAS holler at his cohost about Lebron's legacy. I think what's happening at ESPN is just a microcosm to what's happening in entertainment everywhere. Media companies aren't taking any risks. They just want to make low budget reality shows, glorified podcasts, or a summer blockbuster with a retread IP.
Agreed, but I read somewhere that ESPN viership is way down. I wouldn't know bcause all I watch on ESPN these days are sports and none of the rest of their stuff.
Thank goodness. Lowe's absence this year has really contributed to my general NBA fandom decline. He is thoughtful and committed to covering the games themselves, not the storylines or gambling. I'm excited to listen to him again.
Uhm is this guy supposed to be respectable? Bragging about Houston talk, when they barely even mention them. Only Amen for first team all defense. And calls us dirty in relation to the Warriors game and Sengun jumping into Donkey’s elbow, which should’ve been a no-call, uhm what?!! Feels very much ESPN hot take.
ESPN stand alone streaming service only $30 bucks per month. https://news.url.google.com/url?sa=...sg=5QFIzDzxp7g3jn5hXsunrO43-UI.&opi=116942117
I said many years ago that when ESPN did this, the decline of the cable bundle would greatly accelerate. But since they waited so long to finally put it on the table, "greatly" doesn't apply. Netflix and other streamers have already done most of the damage. Not only is ESPN late to the party, I think their brand has been damaged the last 5-10 years. We'll see how much impact this has going forward. Being married is the only reason I haven't already tossed cable out the door.
Oh please, acting like that’s not a lot. Most than most streaming services, some even quintuple the price and that only for what? Some sports events since their regular shows are absolute garbage….so yeah **** for brains, it’s very ****ing expensive, even for people who can afford it. Nothing justifies that price. Not even mentioning ESPN is owned by who? That’s right DISNEY. Make it a part of the Disney streaming package for $5 extra and call it a day.
i will continue to pirate espn not cause im poor, but because its the right thing to do also, im poor.
