California has every reason to do this and at the same time, should have no actual authority to negotiate trade deals with other countries.

California to Negotiate Trade With Other Countries to Bypass Trump Tariffs
California Governor Gavin Newsom said he has directed his administration to "look at new opportunities to expand trade" as he tries to steer his state around President Donald Trump's sprawling import tariffs.

    Why It Matters
California, the world's fifth-largest economy, plays a crucial role in driving U.S. economic growth. As the largest importer and second-largest exporter among U.S. states, with over $675 billion in two-way trade, it holds significant economic influence. Therefore, Trump's tariffs could have a major impact, potentially increasing costs for California businesses, disrupting global supply chains, and putting pressure on vital industries within the state.

Smart if he can do that legally. I know that if the roles were reversed Gregg Abbott would not only do this, but FoxNews and the entire right would be throwing Abbott parades to celebrate him sticking it to the Dems and “states rights”.

Overturning Rowe v Wade was all about putting power back in the states' hands, as it should be, per Trump, remember.

Pure comedy. Now the liberals are going from full federal authority to states rights.

Such a clickbait, misleading title. California can't "bypass Trump tariffs." There is nothing any state can do to remove federal taxes on imports. Tariffs are entirely under the jurisdiction of the federal government.

All CA or any state can do, which they often do, is talk with foreign governments about economic relationships. A state can ask that certain locally made products be excluded from retaliatory tariffs, but they cannot set U.S. trade policy. It might work to some extent, since foreign governments can pick and choose which products they target in retaliation.

This is not even against U.S. trade goals. This administration wants more exports and fewer imports. So if CA can convince China, for example, to spare its products from retaliation, that actually supports this administation objective.

NYT on Canada’s plan for a trade war. Not sure if they’ve actually executed it this way or will, but there’s already a roadmap for other countries to follow.

The Canadian officials said their choice of goods was meant to be precisely targeted and aimed at political impact. They specifically want to focus on goods made in Republican or swing states, where the pain of tariffs, like pressure on jobs and the bottom lines of local businesses, would affect Trump allies.

Canada’s government hopes that those allies, including governors or members of Congress, would then pick up the phone and call Mr. Trump, intervening in favor of de-escalation.

What's full comedy is not analyzing a situation individually and instead supporting something because you're conservative, Republican or whatever

Like MAGA supporting tariffs while the conservative wall Street is telling you they're a mistake

Why are you talking about that here? You can't just admit Trump is wrong about something?

You're rambling. Do you support tariffs? Can you answer this simple question without rambling about drugs which has nothing to do with the thread topic?
