At this point, it's about the team. I think Ime was shrewd with Reed as I saw a player who was overwhelmed by NBA length and speed. It will be up to Reed to take what he has learned in his rookie season and apply it to improving in the offseason. If he keeps it up during this last stretch, maybe he will get some minutes off the bench.
He played in 60% of our games. If he'd played well in even half of those, he would've seen more minutes. Just be glad he's finally living up to his draft position.
It's not false at all. You are confusing being in the rotation and freedom. Early in the season he was getting benched when he didn't play well and then he eventually completely fell out of the rotation.
It likely would not have made the team a lot better. Rookies, and especially small guard rookies, don't know how to play winning basketball.
Sure, you can be dishonest and spin it if you like, but getting 3 minutes on the court and then getting yanked for any excuse isn't giving a young player a legitimate opportunity....though it counts as "playing in a game". When given legitimate opportunity, he's played well overall....despite the cold shooting streak.....that he'd have worked past quickly if given the chance to do so. It's okay to acknowledge that Ime has mismanaged things, it's just not something he's good at.
You said Reed played consistently well when he wasnt worried about getting yanked due to mistakes. Early in the season Ime trusted him so if your hypothesis was correct Reed shouldnt have played badly to begin with. In fact his very first game went badly so even before he got benched he was already playing bad. Stop blaming everyone else for Reed's performance except himself wtf.
I disagree. if Sheppard was given legitimate opportunity he'd be the primary backup at the PG which would make everyone else better. Having that caliber of 3 point shooter on the court drastically improves spacing and he would give them another player who can create for others fairly consistently....which would allow FVV to play fewer minutes so he'd stay healthier and keep him more fresh in games to help him hit more big shots. The reason Sheppard, at least in theory, would have helped make the team better early is that he's a super high BBIQ player, a lot of the things that some players take years to figure out, he walked in the door knowing.
Nah you are the stats guy just look at Reeds stats. Having a cold shooting streak is playing bad as you have said multiple times about Jalen Green before.
Walked in the door knowing but averaging 3 pts on less than 30% shooting from 3? Reed walked knowing how to suck ass. Thankfully he seemed like he didnt listen to sycophants like you and took the time to work on his game instead of blaming everyone but himself for his shitty play.
My guy, we've been over this, you have no business attempting to talk basketball. You don't understand how stats are used AND you don't understand the game well enough to have a competent eye test. You're just in over your head. Remember when you were going on about Sheppard having "bad shooting mechanics"? As always, you're just saying random nonsense. Let your betters have this discussion.
How are you my better when you swore up and down Sheppard was gonna blow up in the NBA? If anything facts have proven you are clueless one here everything you predicted during the draft was wrong. Didnt you say Knecht was too old and Edey was too slow? You said Castle has a broke shot but now he is shooting 3s better than Reed. And yes Reed has bad shooting mechanics. 31% from 3 thats your perfect shooting mechanics? LMAO Thats worse than Jalen when you were roasting him last year and telling everyone he couldnt shoot. But now its Reed Sheppard shooting even worse than Jalen did last year suddenly he has perfect shooting mechanics? You are wrong on every turn but act like you know it all, literally Dunning Kruger at its finest. So dont tell me you are my better with your track record and all your wrong takes.
He's played 20 minutes in a game 3 times this season. Saying that he had a real opportunity is wild. That said, rookie guards are always basically unplayable (look at someone like castle), so even if reed played a lot he almost certainly would have been terrible (though as is typical, would probably look much better now than back in oct/nov/dec).
Maybe if he wasn't historically bad he would have gotten more PT. Castle is a good example yes he was bad but he was still better than Reed.. Its one thing score in the 40s well Reed was scoring in the 30s and shooting 3s in the 20s at one point. Either that or he just wouldnt do anything, play 12 mins and take 2 shots or some BS. Its nice to see him play well but its like his 5th good game the entire season.
To your point, over the last ten years the only small guard to have a good rookie season was Trae Young.
Giving a player a chance doesn't mean you trust them. Reed got a shot to prove he could contribute to winning early in the season and he couldn't do it. Stop making up stuff. Nobody is blaming anybody besides Reed. He failed when he had a short leash and he's played pretty well when he's had a longer one. Unfortunately for Reed the Rockets are a really good team that isn't willing to give him minutes to develop right now. There is no rush though.
Iverson wasn't too bad......and yes, more than 10 years, but your made up line of demarcation seemed silly. DD
He didn't walk on the court knowing those things and he's not a physical freak like Amen that can make up for inexperience with athleticism. Likely if we had played Reed it would have cost the team some games because he didn't know how to play winning basketball in the NBA. It's something that comes with time for guards and Ime wasn't willing to sacrifice wins this year when he had a solid vet like Holiday.
Both things can be true, you know, like in adult conversations. Reed was not good in limited minutes. But saying he got the chance and did not take it, it's crazy. Are you guys even watching the games? Another thing where the comparison with Jalen is not good. JG had the biggest of leashes for 3 years in a row. Reed got the standard chance of a rookie in a contender. Minimum.
