I was on with Jackson Gatlin again on Locked on Rockets... we talked about the importance of the playoffs, particularly for Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun. Basically we're discussing if this team needs a primary/A1.

I'll watch the video later as time allows, but I don't entirely trust Ime to use his players very well.

He seems very much a "if they're healthy, play the vets a lot of minutes" kind of coach.

I remember folks around here making the same complaint about JVG, and then Adleman, and then McHale, and then D'Antoni. I don't think it's uncommon for coaches to have an 8-9 man rotation, especially come playoffs.

Most players are rhythm players so I think coaches would rather err on the side of over working their horses and rather than under working them. Dunno. I definitely wish there were more minutes to go around for this young team but I guess that comes with risks.

They will both have their moments and they will both have looks of being lost at times. Doesn't matter, this is a get your feet wet in the playoffs year. Really have no expectations other than getting them some playoff experience...

    Go Rockets!!!

... and what do they all have in common?

None of them have ever won an NBA championship as a head coach.

Such a lazy response. I searched for 10 seconds.

Celtics playoff stats last season, exactly 9 players had more than 100 minutes played over 19 games.
Denver, the year before, only had 8 players, over 20 games. In fact, their 9th player only played 18 minutes.

I'm pretty sure MOST good teams only have ~9 player rotation.

Ya'll need to stop with this non-sense that Rockets coaches are bad cause they only have a 8-9 player rotation. That is COMMON.

I hope so... but we are on house money. I don't expect anything major from this team. We lack that SUPERSTAR when the moments get tough. Its ok. We are well on our way.

It is not a bad thing if their weaknesses are on full display in the Playoffs...... keep working....keep hustling.

None of this refutes what I said in any way.

This is 100% going to depend on which team we play and how they defend us. But generally speaking I think there's a very low chance that Sengun wows us in the playoffs though because he's so easy to shut down. You can front him and double him with very little risk, and I don't trust Ime (I'm not even sure there's a solution to this problem if I'm being honest, with our current roster) to figure out a counter to denying Sengun the ball and immediately doubling him if he gets it. His size and lack of athleticism makes it really easy to front him and deny him the ball. And then he's not big enough to see over doubles and hit the open man like Jokic can, his response to getting doubled is usually a kickout back to the closest perimeter player or a turnover.

I think Jalen has a good chance to be a playoff riser. Not that I trust it, but I don't think you can shut down Jalen Green when he's on. If he's on then he's unstoppable, we just have to hope we get that version of Jalen in the playoffs.

I think both will have good games and bad games - its all going to come down to how they are utilized...

Contrary to most posters... i hope Ime doesnt limit us to a short rotation.

As ive been saying around the board of late - if we are going to be successful its gonna hinge on riding the hot hand(s) and benching the guys that are off on any given night...

I mean a FVV could drop 9 3-pointers as he did a few games back - or he could look like crap as he did vs the Lakers...

If we are going to rely on him for 39 mins on those crap nights - then we are screwed...

same as with JG or Alpi or whoever...

otoh anybody can go off... if we are at least open to it.

we dont have a 'go to guy' - what we do have is flexibility - i hope we use it!

Context. How else should I interpret your statement? All coaches are bad coaches if they don't win a championship? And the reason the Rockets coaches didn't win is because they stubbornly held onto a 9-man rotation? That was the context.

You are supposed to realize that you decided to go with an appeal to authority and then picked coaches who did nothing but fail in the playoffs.

Also you are mischarachterizing the complaints.

The complaints were never about a 9 man rotation with ANY of those coaches, they were about 7 or 8 man rotations that caused players to get exhausted and fail when it mattered most.

i think a lot of it can do with context...

are u runnin n gunnin the whole time - or r u walking it up?

are u running on d constantly switching - or r u manning up and leaning on each other most of the time?

do u have a bunch of young legs or one of the oldest teams in the league?

how deep is your rotation? Is #10 a scrub or is he better than a winded #9?

so many factors to consider,,, lol

i didnt like MDAs limited rotation...
