Sadly, as talented as he is, we're seeing why so many teams passed on Cam in the draft. It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up another player in the list of very athletic players with high potential who went absolutely nowhere because of attitude and personality.
Does he get a capri sun and orange slice at halftime...and a snocone ticket when the game's over? Or was that just LL baseball and soccer?
We don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes. Maybe Stone and Ime have already bent over backwards and gone the extra mile for Cam. Sometimes it’s on the player. But, we just don’t know. I do know that the Rockets have the fourth best record in the NBA after having the worst record a few years ago, so I feel pretty good with the decisions Stone and Ime have made in building this team. I still think Cam can be a very good player in this league, and I hope it is with the Rockets.
If you draft a player, you should have a plan for them. The Rockets ****ed up the Eddie Griffin draft when he was 19 by not having a plan to help him deal with his issues. Every player has a different temperament a coach has to modify his behavior to get the most out of every player......and by proxy the asset that we spent draft capital on. Now, if Cam is a bust - they did the right thing 100%......However, IF he becomes a good NBA player, Ime and Stone should be fired.....it is their job to develop and find a way to get the most out of your players, not every player has the same motivations..... You can't let talent walk or leave without knowing exactly what they are and should be. DD
This is absurd. Since when is a 20th pick becoming a decent NBA player after going to another team a fireable offense for the GM that let him go? Do you know how often this happens in the NBA? Arguably the best GM in the league right now, Sam Presti, practically gave away an MVP/all-time-great player (Harden) and his all-time blunder didn't put him out of a job.
Presti wanted to keep Harden, ownership said they would not pay lux tax....different scenario all together. Cam and Reed looked good tonight....not surprised. DD
Man he has so much potential. I really really hope that we keep him in the offseason and figure out how to integrate him in the roster next year.
Look at his teammates cheering for his meaningless basket after he sulked through all their success. That's camaraderie, brotherhood. They can all claim to be so fatigued and keep their heads down. They can say he's never happy for them so why be happy for him? They do it because they have character. Keep lying to yourself that he deserves the same chances they got. Selfish on offense, selfish on defense, selfish on the bench and selfish off the court. He's the only such player on the roster.
Exactly, trade Brooks and see where we go with Cam. People that don't like him are just afraid he will take Jalen's spot....and he might. DD
That's not true at all. Presti gave Harden 1 hour to accept a clear low ball offer. "After everything we established – everything we had done – you give me an hour?" Harden told Yahoo! Sports on Monday afternoon. "This was one of the biggest decisions of my life. I wanted to go home and pray about it. It hurt me. It hurt." Presti handled the situation inexcusably poorly, especially for an immensely talented young player who put his ego aside for a bench role when he could have easily started for every other team in the league and gotten 35 minutes a night. And let's be completely honest, hypothetically, let's say ownership pressured Stone and Ime into not playing Cam Whitmore, and Whitemore flourished elsewhere. There is 0 chance you would excuse Stone and Ime under these circumstances, instead you would claim that it's their jobs to convince ownership to play Cam and not trade him.
LOL. So even if the Rox win a ring if Cam blows up Stone and Ime should be fired??? Why is 20th pick Cam Whitmore more important than the rest of the team as well as team results? Ime: Man we just won our 10th ring! DD: Cam Whitmore just scored 18 pts on the Suns. You're fired! LMAO and this dude tells you what Stone did is easy and anybody can do it. I aint even commenting on that Cam is Manu BS.
I probably would have agreed with you this offseason coming off of Cams excellent rookie season, but given the year Dillon has had, no way I’m trading a 40% 3pt shooter to get a 33% 3pt shooter on the court. The defensive drop off would also be significant. I think Cam is a special talent but I just don’t see how he’s going to have the opportunity to play much next season with Dillon, Tari, Bari and Amen locked in. I’m not trading him for a bag of chips though. He will blow up with a bad team that runs him out there for major minutes and doesn’t demand defense from him.
Cam's talent is undeniable. On a bad team, he might end up a top 10 scorer in the league as a starter. He'd be a monster. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to be a culture fit here. Hopefully they can get something for him, but whatever that is it almost certainly won't match his upside.
I saw him get up and cheer quite a few times during the blowout and after one of his dunks whole going back to the huddle, Ime gave Cam some serious "that's what I'm talking about" pats. It's good to see Cam is well liked.
Yeah that's how narcissists are, they will cheer only if they're cheered. That's why I said to notice how his teammates cheer for him regardless of whether it's reciprocated. He's a selfish guy and this is not new. He was selfish in team usa and fiba. He was selfish in high school. College. NBA. Everywhere he's been, people have been begging him to be less selfish. The fact that he cheered for his teammates only when he felt good about himself just further proves the point. Selfish on offense, selfish on defense, selfish on the bench and selfish off the court. He's the only such player on the roster. I'll change my mind when he does something different consistently.
Nah he was cheering in the 3rd before being put in the game. Like standing up and clapping. It surprised me because I expected him to be sulking. He needs to drop his ego a bit though, agreed there. Still young and I think he'll be unleashed in the playoffs and actually win the Rockets some games. Stay tuned.
Yeah he was cheering because there's a reward: getting on the court. He was still in frozen resting b**** face the past couple of months when he could've cheered for various things. Not staying tuned personally. On researching his background, this has been a problem since he was very young. I don't expect a basketball coach or GM to fix this type of thing. More likely to cause an even bigger problem than he is to improve, same as KPJ. Let's see if he gets actual help in the summer.
It's nice to see us arguing about Cam again and giving Jalen a break. If he does have a legit personality problem (I'm not going to label it as an official disorder because that wouldn't be fair to him) then are there examples of other "divas" that turned it around? Started like little b****es and had a comin' to Jesus moment that turned their career around? They are all the best of the best at basketball in the entire world. And it seems like most of them understand this so they realize they've got to show they deserve their minutes against the best in the world. But let's imagine for a second that Cam is legit narcissistic, then he's probably deeply insecure and fragile. If this is the case then Ime and Stone have got to figure out how to address it without betraying the other players who have bought into the culture. But my question is, what spoiled selfish little b****es almost pouted their way out of the league, then came to Jesus and turned it around?
