He just became a below average PG from a starter level PG within a year. He almost shot us out of tonight game again. We can find some low TO pg easily like TJ McConnell or Pritchard at much lower cost. He is a negative on the court most nights with his poor shooting!
FVV just needs to go ... No gravity No finishing at the rim, doesn't even take a tour thru the lane. Mediocre shooter. Sure, he plays decent defense and doesn't turn the ball over a lot, but the stakes are higher now and you need more out of that spot. #upgradethepgspot
It's too bad the Rockets can't acquire Coby White from the Bulls. They should offer the 2025 pick from the Suns to OKC for Ty Jerome.
We should still keep FVV because Amen and Jalen arent good enough to be full time pgs. We should just add Tyus Jones in free agency take him from the Suns so they dont have a pg.
I think that we need to wait and see how our guys function in the playoffs, before deciding who we should keep and who we should send away. I agree that Fred’s performance was pretty weak throughout this season. But after four years, this time we’ll finally play AFTER mid-April. The 82 games of the regular season are not the only indicator for roster decisions.
The larger issue would be replacing FVV. Even if we let him walk and try to maximize cap space, I think the most space we can open up is like 19 million, which would really get you much. And that's only if we slash everything - if we do anything like trying to resign Adams, we're, effectively, out of any usable space and in a weird purgatory where we may have less cap space than the Non-Taxpayer MLE. Another consideration: trades. If we let FVV walk (because I seriously doubt he extends at 10m per), then if we want to make a major trade, we likely have to include one of Sengun, Green, or Brooks. That's why I think the Rockets should seriously consider opting in to FVV's option - we should be able to do so while retaining all our guys and staying under the second apron (correct me if I'm wrong). That way we keep him as an asset and can trade him next deadline. Now, there is one complicating factor to this - Ime. Ime seems to use FVV as a crutch, so maybe there is an argument that it would be best just to remove the temptation.
Move Amen to point and sign Ty Jerome as back up Younger, better shooter, more size, probably cheaper
I'm not against oicking up the option with the idea of using the salary in trade. On staying under the 1A - nearly impossible when picking up the FVV option. 1A - $195,946,000 12 Players on the active roster including FVV - $190,321,540 Luxury Tax $187,900,000 They would be $4,624,460 away from the 1A with three open roster spots. That doesn't account for any draft picks either. They'll have that PHX pick and OKC's 2nd round pick which is currently the final pick. Even in that case, I wouldn't mind picking up the option with the intent to move it at the deadline. I would however insist upon a PG in either FA or the draft. and the return for FVV in that scenario likely needs to be a point guard. The other thing in play here - the luxury tax being lower than the 1A. I wonder which is more relevant to Tilman .... The payout from the revenue sharing at seasons end from the tax paying teams or the 1A penalties. Otherwise, he needs to go, this team needs better guard play.
Sorry, I meant the second apron. We're a competitive team. I'm hoping Tilman is at least willing to go into the First Apron. I have no expectations of going into the Second, and I actually think that the drawbacks are just too great.
People on here complain so quickly...lol FVV just gave us a 37 piece a couple nights ago against the Heat...dude had a bad shooting night! We would not be #2 in the West without FVV...don't forget during our 6 game losing streak, Fred was out and we struggled bad.
I think Tilman is willing to spend on the first apron if it makes sense. For this offseason, I think the Rockets want to maintain the ability to accept back 125% of salary in a trade, as they still want to add a star. As such, I think the Rockets will stay below the first apron this offseason until the trade deadline as it makes sense. I think once Amen is extended or Rockets are comfortable they have a star, the Rockets will be an above 1st apron team. On improving PG, the realistic options seem to be: A) improve the SG with someone like Booker (i.e., a SG with some playmaking) such that Amen can be the PG. Use up a lot of resources. B) Use up a couple of FRPs to get someone like Alvarado or DiVincenzo. Amen probably has to start at SG either to cover for a small PG or to provide more playmaking, as any PG acquired likely has a weakness that Amen helps cover. C) MLE for someone like Tre Jones D) re-sign FVV for $20M-$30m I'm guessing the Rockets go Option D. I'm not opposed to options A or B if price is fair. A lot of FVV haters pucker up any time anyone mentioned trading for Fox or Booker. I just don't see an avenue to get a better PG without using up at least a couple of picks.
Honestly i think i would offer him a contract similar to what brooks got. A descending 3yr for 60m sounds fair from both sides imo. 25m next yr 20m the following 15m team option in 2028
Do him a solid and pick up team option and then trade him for KD in the offseason. Of course it would be a 3 team or more trade to make the salaries match but at least he gets paid. We definitely would have to give up picks and a young player maybe Cam or Reed. It’s time.
