I was reading this order, and one of the demands seeks to block states from accepting mail-in ballots after election day, regardless of when they are mailed in.

That's ridiculous. People can't help it if mail is delayed. What about soldiers serving abroad, or in combat? What if mail is delayed because of a hurricane or other reasons? Throwing out their votes if the ballots get there after election day, regardless of when they were mailed in is absurd.

Many of the provisions in the order are likely to be quickly challenged and are legally suspect. The US constitution explicitly gives states and Congress the authority to set the rules for election and does not authorize the president to do so.

“The short answer is that this executive order, like all too many that we’ve seen before, is lawless and asserts all sorts of executive authority that he most assuredly does not have,” said Danielle Lang, a voting rights lawyer at the non-profit Campaign Legal Center.

"Our election infrastructure has never been more secure and the election community never better prepared to deliver safe, secure, free and fair elections for the American people. Importantly, we have no evidence of any malicious activity that had a material impact on the security or integrity of our election infrastructure,” Easterly added.

Still, Trump framed the order as a critical step in “straightening out our election”, claiming the country is “sick” from what he termed “fake elections.” He added that “there are other steps that we will be taking as the next in the coming weeks” when it comes to the electoral process.

Honestly, Trump and his fake elections nonsense shows that it's he who is sick in the head. It's beyond normal behavior to compulsively lie about everything 365 days a year.

Shameful. I can only hope that his comment about taking "other steps" in the coming weeks is as empty as the majority of his promises. I doubt it though.

Glad that he did this order well before 2026 elections. Gives the legal process time to sort out what's allowed before they have to decide what to apply in real life.

Sure, I can solve this one in time for the 2026 election.

This EO has zero force of law, elections are controlled by the states within the bounds set by statute, the Constitution and the FEC, it is a vapid nullity not worth wiping your ass with.

Solved! With 18 or so months to spare

    You're welcome!

That's great. But until a court says so, everyone will have their panties in a bunch.

The idea that the Executive Order can bind non-executive bodies & jursidictions by simply - making new substantive law by imperial decree - until a judge says otherwise - is brand new and un-American and anti-constitutional. Or "banning" a law firm, whatever that even means.

Can the government pause, at least temporarily, student loan collections owed to an execuvite branch agency, by Executive Order? Sure. The DOE is controlled by the President's appointees! Of course they can.

Can the government make state elections illegal by fiat? LOL, no of course not. I don't need a court to say so.
