Watched the first 3 episodes last night. I think I read somewhere that this season was supposed to be more true to the books than previous...I'm not seeing that so far this season, though I may be a little rusty. But overall I've enjoyed it.
Honestly, it is at least generally following the book outline even if they are messing with the details. That's much better than the travesty season 1 was. Some of those changes are previously established in former seasons so there isn't much but to follow through with them. I do like Liandrin and her son's story, it adds depth to her character. I still dislike Perrin having a wife and how everyone has to have sex with each other right away, Lan and Nynaeve being a prime example of a relationship that was rushed. It's like the showrunner has a fetish in which everyone has to have a relationship right away. Still, this show's acting has gotten much better and the story changes are starting to make sense, overall the characters are now much better and the pacing is making sense.
The hookups are better filler than preachy moralizing I guess. I haven't read the books, but the characters mostly make sense instead of being wretched messes like the 1st season and there's enough of a mystery where it doesn't drag too much. It's alright to watch if you've already invested 2 seasons worth, but ngl I've forgotten a lot of details from the first 2 seasons.
I didn't know it but i missed the whole 2nd season so sounds like i got great watching ahead Rocket River
I really enjoyed watching that scene with Mat, Gawyn and Galad a whole lot. It was one of my favorite early book moments in which Mat starts to assert himself and it has the same feel in the show. Honestly, so far season 3 seems to be giving Perrin, Mat and Rand their fair shake.
S1 was definitely mediocre, I don't know what they were thinking. They've been correcting course since and it's looking better. It wouldn't be the first show to have a shaky start that went on to be great. I think Star Trek Next Generation comes to mind.
This I agree with. Perrin and Mat were easily my favorite characters in the books, and I feel like the show is handling them pretty well, plus the actors (multiple in the case of Mat) seem to have the chops. I was a little worried about the actor playing Perrin in the first season but I feel like he has gotten better. And I agree with the rushing of relationships. I would much prefer there just not be love stories than to crowbar in a bunch of extra sex and lovey-dovey stuff. I also wonder if, based on what they've done so far in season 3, they have plans to completely change the ultimate romantic destination of Rand. I could see what the book does with him being viewed as problematic in today's culture, so it wouldn't surprise me if they decide to change it.
That's exactly what I was thinking with Aviendha and Elayne, due to Rand most likely, but it seems that it was just forced, like many of the relationships on the show.
Season 1 was absolute dogshit, but I gave it another chance and glad I did. Season 2 was really great comparatively. Granted, no relation to the source material and not invested as much in the specific relationships. Moreso the overall story and I like how season 2 ended and look forward to jump back into this soon.
Today's episode, what a banger! For me, probably the best in the entire series so far. S3 really is great TV so far.
I am officially caught up . . . .and this episode was a big old bucket of. . WHET?!?!?! Definitely changed things. Seasons 2 and 3 are definitely better than Season 1 Rocket River
Episode 4 was amazing. I was shocked how good Josha Stradowski was in this episode. I had no idea he had that kind of performance in him. He should get Emmy consideration for this one, but I doubt that happens.
The pilot episode was so bad I never watched another. Decided to check out Season 3. It's not great, but not terrible either. Having nearly every scene packed with ethnically diverse girlbosses making loud proclamations really hurts the immersion. The special effects are pretty good! I imagine the plot is hard to follow for non book readers, but I'm not sure there they could have done any better than they did. I get changing the plot for the sake of TV, but they drastically changed some of the personalities/motivations of characters in ways that seem like a betrayal of the source material.
They have really stepped up the intrigue and surprises The squad is getting stronger I'm still trying to figure out Nynaeve Rocket River
Some valid criticisms. The ethnically diverse girl bosses is actually true to the books so blame the author. The fact they are trying to adapt 15 story and detail dense books into about 8 seasons would make it hard for anyone, shocked they are even trying. Those strong deviations in personality from the books have mostly not worked out to me so I agree there.
Yes and no. In the books, people from the same country tend to have a similar general appearance (like Polish people vs. Chinese people). In the show, a remote mountain village looks like the most racially diverse town in the world. The Aes Sedai are ethnically diverse as a group, because the White Tower draws women from all over.
