This is pretty hilarious, the Trump team decided to plan a strike on Yemen from a few weeks ago over Signal, and for whatever reason, included the Editor of The Atlantic on the thread because, reasons?

Brian Hughes, the spokesman for the National Security Council, responded two hours later, confirming the veracity of the Signal group. “This appears to be an authentic message chain, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain,” Hughes wrote. “The thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials. The ongoing success of the Houthi operation demonstrates that there were no threats to troops or national security.”

Oh my. That ungrateful toad never said thank you ONCE in the response by the spokesman.

William Martin, a spokesperson for Vance, said that despite the impression created by the texts, the vice president is fully aligned with the president. “The Vice President’s first priority is always making sure that the President’s advisers are adequately briefing him on the substance of their internal deliberations,” he said. “Vice President Vance unequivocally supports this administration’s foreign policy. The President and the Vice President have had subsequent conversations about this matter and are in complete agreement.”
Guess JD's sleepin on the couch. Maybe he can berate some upcoming head of state in order to stay in Donny's good graces.

I admire the end-to-end commitment to operational security - Houthi PC Small Group (PC = Principals Committee)

it's a group chat title where's you'd MOST EXPECT classified houthi airstrikes to be discussed in detail, so using the ol' reverse Psychology, you may not ever even check it out.

Ah, I don't think Signal is an approved channel for official government communication, and absolutely not one that includes details of military operations and materials that are clearly classified. It also bypasses record-keeping, which I believe is required by law.

WHY: The CCP could have been listening to all of these communications over whatever "consumer" (I assume) devices running the Signal app (I doubt you can even install Signal on a government device for secure and sensitive communication).

This is wholly reckless and unbelievable.

This is the sort of thing that would have, at one time, been a trigger for massive investigations, possible impeachment hearings, and just a response worthy of the kind of massive security breach that it is. The current GOP likely left that kind of professionalism behind a long time ago, while their president hawks his cryptocoin on his social media platform and shills for cars on the white house lawn.

So....at least they didn't use Facebook messenger, I guess?

I don't even know what is scarier
    1. they did this by accident
    or

These dumbasses are all a threat to our National Security. They are stupid and reckless, and doing stuff of this nature in a chat app is inexcusable. Circumventing the laws on top of it all, to hide their plans from official records is corrupt as hell.

    The Legal and Security Implications

This incident raises significant concerns about the security practices of senior U.S. officials. National security lawyers pointed out that discussions of active military operations should only occur on classified communication systems, not on apps like Signal, which are not approved for sharing classified information. Even though Signal is encrypted, it doesn't meet the security standards required for sensitive government discussions.

There is also the matter of the Espionage Act and the Federal Records Act. The use of Signal to coordinate military action potentially violated both. Senior officials should not use unsecured apps for official business, as it risks leaking national security information. What's more, by setting messages to disappear after a certain period, the officials also circumvented federal records laws, which mandate the preservation of government communications.
