I agree - guard play, particularly the point guard spot (and backup shooting guard) has been the biggest limiting factor on this team this season. Part of this is roster makeup - Jalen has been the only true 2 guard on the team the past two seasons (unless you count Jeenathan Williams who was just recently upgraded from a 2 way to a standard NBA contract). FVV has been the only real point guard on the roster the past two seasons, despite Holiday & Shepard, neither of which have been able to get the team into the offense reliably for any extended stretch of possessions. Jalen has been much better as the season has gone along, after a terrible start but he can't play the full 48 & there is no capable backup. FVV is just too limited, he's been an under league average shooter all season long and struggles to get to and finish in the paint / at the rim. He doesn't even "take a tour thru the lane" very often just to probe the defense. No, he doesn't turn the ball over a lot, and he can run a pick and roll .... but lets be honest, he's the limiting factor to this offense. Finding a primary ball handler is probably the hardest position to fill in the league - you gotta take as many bites at the apple as possible .... There are several guards in the middle of this draft that have very high potential both as scorers and facilitators - some of the later guys look to be better facilitators than the top of the lottery guards who are more athleticism & potential than polish. I know some view Amen or Shepard as the eventual point but I'm not there .... I see both as more secondary ball handlers, at least in the immediate future. Because of that, I'd be going into the draft with an emphasis on that primary ball handler position. unless a player at another position drops dramatically.
there was another time on the perimeter he got hit in the face. they did call the foul super late but that was after he had to react and make it super obvious he got hit in the face.
Come to think of it, the mix of veteran help and the young core truly meshed well. You wouldn't have to spend all that money on Fred if you had a young playmaker....but wasn't bad in retrospect.
Jalen was handling the ball a lot with Amen being out. He has to refocus on his catch and shoot jump shot more often. He will get opportunities to create his own shot, but he has to balance things out.
Jalen Green: 6 pts..... -7 (+/-) Sengun: 8 pts............ -9 (+/-) Herro: 8 points.......... +6 (+/-) guy torched us last time Dude I said to draft over Reed Sheppard Kel'el Ware: 16 pts...70% (FG%)....100% (3P%)...14 Rebs....2 stls....2 blks
Amen Thompson is by far the Rockets best player. Jalen Green is a weak link, and will be the exploited player that loses the Rockets a playoff series. He’s a no substance chucker.
Jalen Green this season numbers vs. career numbers. Raw stats Points: 21.2/20.1 Rebounds: 4.6/4.3 Assists: 3.4/3.3 Steals+Blocks: 1.2/1.1 Turnovers: 2.5/2.4 Shooting stats FG%: 42%/42% 3PT%: 35%/34% eFG%: 51%/50% TS%: .545/.543 Jalen Green value on the Rockets compared to other Rockets with major minutes this season Darko BPM: 5th behind FVV/Tari/Amen/Sengun Basketball Reference Value over Replacement: 5th behind FVV/Tari/Amen/Sengun Dunks and Threes EPM: 5th behind FVV/Tari/Amen/Sengun BBall-Index's LEBRON (this is the same site where people are getting the "Jalen has the most on-ball gravity" stat from): 5th behind FVV/Tari/Amen/Sengun With the season wrapping up, it seems that two things are fairly clear. One is that Jalen is a remarkably consistent player over a long stretch of time, despite his ups and downs in any particular game. The other is that he is, on this Rockets team, NUMERO CINCO.
We should build this team to be the most athletic of all time. Amen, Jalen, Tari, Jabari, Sengun. Bench of Naz Reid, Ausur Thompson, Kuminga, etc.
Yeah I saw that too. Made no sense with some of the touch fouls the heat got. Sengun and Jalen both get hammered and whistles are swallowed. That will be the reason we won't in the playoffs,
Lefit tired of JG’s GLeague whistle from the refs. Honestly IME needs to get thrown out a few times until something changes. Sometimes JG doesn’t help himself with the optics of a loose handle or being out of control but that’s a bullshit excuse over the longterm. To my basketball eyes JG gets a whistle approx 30-40% as often as he should. it was one thing when the games didn’t matter and you wanted a young player to build character and fight/play through it. But this **** is real for us now and it needs to change. Love Alpi but when he throws his hands up it’s 50/50. When JG does it’s 80/20 or 90/10.
Jalen is allowed a bad game now and again, he isn't an ALPHA or lead player but he is a pretty good SG - not great, but pretty good - ala Zack Lavine. We are a team of pretty good ......all over the roster...looking for a "Great" player to build around. DD
Alpi is much more athletic than you give him credit for. Jabari is extremely athletic for 6’ 11” 21 year old. Wait until he puts on 20 lbs of muscle and get back to me.
