I don't know if there would be room for LeBron as part of a Vegas owner's group if the current owners of Dallas were given a team in Vegas or moved/transferred the current Mavs to Vegas.

I don't know if LeBron will be happy if he is considered a passive owner and any input that he wants to give to a FO will be mostly ignored. It remains to be seen if he would be a great FO Exec - Consultant.

From what i have read, he doesn't own any part of Klutch Sports Agency, but I have it as very difficult to deny linkage between him and Klutch.

It will be interesting to see how things go with expansion and how the NBA navigates it.

If the NBA gets the cities and owners for expansion sorted & selected by the end of 2025, then the earliest that the new teams would start playing would be the 2028 - 29 season?

I realize that we are straying far from the original intent of this thread, so we can create a new thread in the appropriate Forum if you like and we can continue there.

For the last time: The Mavs are staying in Dallas with their current ownership. They will not be moving to Vegas. The expansion Vegas ownership group will very likely include LeBron as a part-owner because he has made it known that is what he wants.

Who knows how "passive" of an owner LeBron would be? For all we know, he could be the managing owner regardless of what his share is.

I should have fleshed it out more...

The current Dallas ownership might not welcome having a significant partner in Vegas (Mavs moved there or expansion team). If the NBA is going to step up and get LeBron into the franchise business in Vegas, then the league could very well do as you have been saying and have the current Dallas ownership stay in Dallas rather than force a Marriage in Vegas between LeBron and the current Dallas owners.

A potential casino resort and new arena from the Mavs' owners? The first zoning steps were just approved

The council around 2:30 a.m. voted 5-4 on two proposals, one that included changing a 1,001-acre development area around state highways 114, 183 and Loop 12.

IRVING, Texas — The Irving Zoning Commission early Tuesday morning narrowly approved a zoning change that sets the stage for the owners of the Dallas Mavericks to build a casino resort and arena near the former Texas Stadium site.

The commission around 2:30 a.m. voted 5-4 to approve two proposals, including one that would change a 1,001-acre development area around state highways 114, 183 and Loop 12 into high-intensity mixed-used development. The second proposal would switch two specific tracts within that development -- on the northeast side of State Highway 114, across from the old Texas Stadium -- from transit-oriented mixed-use community to high-intensity mixed-use.

The zoning commission's vote advances the issue to the Irving City Council, which will take up the issue at an upcoming meeting Thursday, March 20.

The zoning change approved early Tuesday was an initial step that could allow the Las Vegas Sands Corporation -- the owners of which also own the Mavericks -- to build a resort and casino on the property.

A casino is an essential element of the Sands Corporation's plan, the company previously told city council. However, Texas has not yet allowed casino resorts to be developed in the state, and it's not clear if or when the law might be changed.

Still, if that eventually happens, the zoning changes approved by the Irving city council would lay the groundwork for the Sands Corporation to build a casino in North Texas adjacent to a 15,000-seat arena and resort. The arena plans have led to speculation that the Mavericks might leave Dallas for the Irving site, about eight miles up the highway from the American Airlines Center.

The current Mavs owners will not have any involvement with the Vegas expansion team. Like it or not, they are stuck in Dallas.

I really can't say, while it was a conversation amongst friends, this person is a public figure that literally everyone on this forum would know instantly and I'd rather not put him out there on the topic.

To those who don't think the league will allow a team to move - There's gonna be owners who are highly unhappy that they'd let a new ownership group come in and own the highest valued franchise in the league in LV when many of them have been trying to move to that local for decades and the league telling them no no no, we don't want gambling in our league. Now an outsider walks in and ..... yeah, pissed!

It is more probable an outsider will set up a team in Vegas rather than an existing team cuz owners will infight among themselves. For example if New Orleans wants to set up a team in Vegas Minnesota will get angry why not them instead etc

Hold on. I could see another team, like maybe the Magic or Hornets, moving to Vegas because they are in pathetic markets that shouldn't even have an NBA franchise. But ain't no way it's gonna be the Mavs, especially (as you indicate) with a new ownership group that is beyond stupid.

I'm not sure how many owners will be "pissed" by a new group in Vegas. I assume the NBA will set the expansion fee as high as possible. Last year, I saw something that estimated $7-$8 billion PER TEAM. That's probably high enough to make every owner happy.

It looks like the pick will be 13th at the end of the season. Mavs are losing every game so I see them beating the Suns and getting 12th. Fortunately I dont see the Suns backsliding more than 13th, Sac, Orlando and Atlanta all have much easier schedules than the Suns. The Suns and Bulls tonight will be huge, Bulls are one of the "easy" teams Suns will face however they have been much better than their record indicates since the deadline. Hopefully they beat the Suns.

A late lotto for the 2nd-5th seed is still a W. Although at that range I would def be tempted to see what Whitmore and that pick can bring in a trade or trade up.

The league isn’t going to move the Mavericks to Vegas. The ownership of the Mavs is actually divesting from some of their their Vegas assets.

The League is going to sell the rights to Vegas to an expansion group and it will be very expensive.

10th in the west. They’re in the play-in now if it starts today.

what a bummer. they might sit on 9th or 10 place. Any team with KD and Booker wont be easy if they make it out of play ins into play offs.

I'm actually looking at the Blazers now, hoping they can pass Phoenix. Look at the Suns next 10 games, absolutely brutal.

It doesnt matter look at Tankathon instead. Lotto is based on regular season record rather than if they make the play in or not.

So is it true they were struggling to get permission to expand gambling in Dallas and now they have the approvals?
