I got this from the brother of a current longtime NBA assistant coach (formerly with the Rockets) who's still in the league. Seems pretty legit. Sterling probably won't step aside because the league desperately wants a franchise in Vegas but is reluctant to expand just yet.
Why would Adam Silver and the NBA allow the Mavs to move from a great market and rabid fanbase in Dallas when they wouldn't allow the Kings to move from a place like Sacramento? IMO, as rumored, it is far more likely Vegas will get an expansion team (and LeBron will be part of the owner's group).
Exactly. The Mavs new owners can want whatever they want, but the league is in control of where teams play. If they want a team in Vegas there is no need to more the Dallas franchise for it to happen.
I don't think the Mavs move to Las Vegas. I could be wrong, but a Dallas expansion team is probably easier to sell than a Las Vegas one or at the very least not being much of an issue. Now Sacramento, NBA is not going to just give up the difference in value between selling a Las Vegas expansion team versus whatever the next best market is whether it is Sacramento or Nashville, etc.
Why would you think moving the Mavs to Vegas and giving Dallas an expansion franchise is an easier sell than just giving an expansion franchise to Vegas? That makes no sense at all. Besides, Vegas and (probably) Seattle are both locks as the next two expansion teams. This has been rumbling for several years. Moving the Mavs is a complete non-starter because the city has done nothing but rabidly support the franchise and it's a major market. The NBA would be slammed by both the media, fans and politicians and it's image would be gashed.
The NBA will not allow the Mavericks to leave Dallas for Las Vegas. The new owner of the Mavericks has actually been divesting their Vegas interests. There will be a team in Vegas but it will not be the Mavericks and it will likely be an expansion team with Seattle as the other likely team added.
From the NBA's perspective, they can sell either a Dallas team or a Vegas team. The Mavericks incur the costs of moving to Vegas and the wrath. The NBA is the white knight that promises Dallas a Nico-free team.
I've thought about that unlikely scenario and, sure, it's theoretically possible. More likely is the families sell the Mavs and are awarded the new Vegas franchise.
This could work too. I don't see either likely happening. My only point is that the NBA loses a ton more money if Sacramento moves to Vegas relative to Dallas.
Oh, sorry! I was talking about when the NBA refused to allow the Kings to move to Seattle. There has never been discussion of moving the Kings to Vegas, just the Mavs nonsense.
I guess I don't pay enough attention to the Kings. I'm not sure how Seattle compares to Sacramento, but Seattle is a big difference from Vegas. I retract my point as it was based solely on a misunderstanding.
We got all the leverage as well! If we want Booker, we can trade their picks back and for matching salary purposes include FVV and Reed to bring Book to H-town! This lineup would be sick: Sengun Amen Dillon Jalen Booker Amen would be our point forward to initiate the offense...if this trade was to happen, we need an offensive minded assistant coach: would be awesome to bring D'Antoni in for this role!
Kings' Domantas Sabonis out at least 10 days with ankle sprain Sacramento Kings star Domantas Sabonis will miss at least 10 days because of a sprained right ankle, the team said Tuesday night. Sabonis was hurt in the third quarter of the Kings' win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. The team said an MRI on the ankle showed a moderate sprain and that Sabonis will be reevaluated in 10 days. Sabonis had just returned to the Kings lineup last week after sitting out six straight games with a hamstring injury. Sacramento is 3-6 without him this season. Sabonis is averaging a league-best 13.9 rebounds to go with 19.2 points and 6.2 assists. Jonas Valanciunas likely will return to the starting lineup in his absence. Earlier Tuesday, the Kings signed forward Terry Taylor to a 10-day contract. He was averaging 17.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 28 games for the Kings' G League affiliate in Stockton. Sacramento is 34-33, good for ninth place in the Western Conference. ******************** Tankathon Kings.......34 - 33 Dallas......33 - 36 Suns........32 - 37 Portland..30 - 39

Today has dream day potential. Most importantly we need to win the first game of the night. Then we can watch and see how things unfold. If Chicago beat PHX it is one of the Suns easier remaining games going wrong for them. Plus Chicago closes overall on them. POR could sneak an upset over Mem, great for our top 4 ambitions. LAL play DEN - someone has to lose, which is also great for our top 4 ambitions. The side possible events are DAL and SAC sparking major upsets (doubtful!)
There is no way that Silver and the rest of the owners allow the Adelsons to come in, trade away Luka, destroy local fan interest and potential sale value of one of the premier teams in the league, and then get to start over with a new expansion franchise, right? On optics alone, that's some Cleveland Spiders/ St. Louis Perfectos-level conflicts of interest...
Of course. I said it rhetorically to illustrate how absurd it would be for the NBA to allow the families to destroy the Mavs, alienate the local fanbase and then be rewarded by letting them move the team from Dallas to Vegas. My whole point in the last several posts: The Mavs aren't moving to Vegas. It's stupid talk.
Someone can kill me with facts but I don't see how Sacramento makes sense for the NBA and have long thought they would move the Kings out of there to Seattle and give them the Sonics name. If we have to go to Vegas, move the Kings there and keep the name. Give Seattle an expansion franchise to be the Sonics again. It doesn't make sense for the Mavs to move. The biggest opportunity for future expansion in the NFL, MLB, and NBA is Austin/San Antonio. Spurs already cover that ground for NBA. Kansas City/St Louis already failed as markets in other sports. It seems we need another city to balance things out. Do Grizzlies work in Memphis, you would have to think that booming market in Tennesse helps but that is Nashville? Toronto is a big market so I assume that is stable. Vancouver is a big city but just bad market for NBA.
