I'm not thrilled but I'm on your side here. When we got him we paid an absolute ransom for him, and it was just in service of BOB trying to save his own ass by mortgaging the future of the team. We fell ass backwards into Watson and it felt like the gamble paid off for a moment, then we got CJ, but by then the shine had worn off. The fact the narrative went quickly to his dedication and leadership (or lack thereof) does not surprise me one bit. The way he comported the last couple of years left everyone sour. This is not a "win now" kind of move, but it's the right move regardless. The OL was in tatters and needed a complete overhaul.
I love the deal for the long term but I dislike it for this season. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised this season.
Very conflicted on this move. If LT is manned by Howard, Fisher or some other rookie in 2025, I'm gonna be pissed about the move. If they've got something else up their sleeve I'm okay with it because of the culture stuff mentioned already. Tunsil just felt like the type of player that never inspired his fellow linemen to do their best because they saw him just skating by on talent with no hard work to back it up. I'm convinced he could have been as elite in run blocking as he was in pass blocking if he wanted to, but he knew that the pass blocking skill was all he needed to do to get paid as a top LT, so he never put in the work for the rest of it. I would actually be pretty happy if they brought in Fant to man LT, even if just for this year. He did a pretty good job when he was here before.
Well the line couldn’t get any worse, could it? (Could it?) I think theres a meme that describes this exact phenomenon…
Of course it was. The 2024 O-line performed as bad as some of the worst lines in NFL history…. Only to be usurped by the literal worst lines in NFL history which was the 2002-2004 Houston Texans. The fact that they made it to the divisional round and Stroud stayed relatively injury free is nothing short of a miracle.
It's gonna be hard to actually get an individual who is a better pass blocker than Tunsil. However O-Line is the ultimate "chain" group of players. When it's as historically bad as it was, I guess it makes sense to just rebuild it almost entirely, including in the locker room. It also makes way too much sense from an asset/salary management POV.
This I can agree with, however this trade does nothing to advance the Texans ability to win a championship while Stroud is on his rookie contract.
Fant is 32... lets not gamble with another 30+ year old. Mason was good in 2023 and then completely fell off a cliff in 2024. You don't wanna gamble with another older guy
I'd like to see what they do with the cap room and picks before making a definitive assessment on that
We're going to find out when he gets to the Redskins where Tunsil and Coleman should make a very fine left side of the OL. I'm not against the trade, but they better have an answer whose name isn't Howard or Fisher to play LT. Otherwise I dont think CJ makes it through the year.
dude i was exaggerating.... it's not that deep. And 3rd grade math!? Damn ya' learn something new everyday!
