Nico, Stroud, Will & the secondary (otherwise meh) “Well geez, take away the best players and of course it’s meh! You can do that for every team/GM!” (Needed 2 WRs despite spending 3 top 100 picks on them and traded a 2nd for another; fans are begging for a new tight end; it’s not that they haven’t invested in the OL, they completely whiffed … but again, hit on the most important position, great WR, great edge, and a badass secondary…thanks DeMeco ) 2024 1-2 QB CJ Stroud 2021 3-67 QB Davis Mills 2022 4-107 RB Dameon Pierce 2024 6-189 RB Jawhar Jordan 2024 UDFA RB British Brooks 2022 2-44 WR John Metchie 2023 3-69 WR Tank Dell 2021 3-89 WR Nico Collins 2023 6-205 WR Xavier Hutchinson 2024 4-123 TE Cade Stover 2021 5-147 TE Brevin Jordan 2022 5-170 TE Teagan Quitoriano 2022 1-15 G Kenyon Green 2024 2-59 OT Blake Fisher 2023 2-62 C/G Juice Scruggs 2023 6-201 C/G Jarrett Patterson 2022 6-205 OT Austin Deculus 2024 7-249 G LaDarius Henderson 2023 1-3 DE Will Anderson Jr. 2023 4-109 DE Dylan Horton 2022 5-150 DE Thomas Booker 2021 6-195 DT Roy Lopez 2024 7-238 DE Solomon Byrd 2024 7-247 DT Marcus Harris 2022 UDFA DT Kurt Hinish 2022 3-75 LB Christian Harris 2023 5-167 LB Henry To'oTo'o 2021 5-170 LB Garret Wallow 2024 6-188 LB Jamal Hill 2022 UDFA LB Jake Hansen 2022 1-3 CB Derek Stingley 2022 2-37 S Jalen Pitre 2024 2-42 CB Kamari Lassiter 2024 3-78 S Calen Bullock 2023 7-248 S Brandon Hill
Some people give up too soon. It's that immediate gratification thing. Last year at this time, some were declaring Stingley a whif too because he was injured. That's why I'm not through with Metchie or Hutchinson just yet.
Anyone drafted past the 4th round is not a whif or a bust. And yes, the Stingley vs that other guy conversations are hilarious in hindsight.
I like the 4th round cut-off for expectations. My very loose expectations are: 1st - Immediate help/starter; 2nd - Immediate help/rotation; 3rd developmental - eventual rotation; 4th - developmental eventual backup
There's a reason PFF ranked our OL #29. 29. Houston Texans Best lineup: LT Laremy Tunsil LG Juice Scruggs C Jarrett Patterson RG Shaq Mason RT Tytus Howard Not only did none of Houston’s young offensive linemen manage to improve, but some showed signs of regression in 2024. Out of the 11 players who logged snaps on the Texans' offensive line, eight earned PFF overall grades below 65.0 this season. The offensive line gave up 180 pressures — including 33 sacks — on 663 pass plays, leading to a 22nd-ranked 83.9 PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating. Best player: Laremy Tunsil Despite the struggles of those around him, Tunsil remained one of the best pass-blocking offensive linemen in the NFL. His 88.6 PFF pass-blocking grade ranked fifth among offensive tackles in 2024.
Wow, you needed PFF to tell you that the OL sucked last year. I need some Madden rankings before I take any of that seriously. Also, in case you missed it, they fired the OC and OL coach, so some things may change
2021- A+ Draft started in 3rd rd. Caserio found a superstat in Collins, Backup QB (Mills) Useful player (Jordan 2022- C= Found a Star level guy in Stingley, 2 more solid starters (Pitre/Harris) ST's/backup guys (Peirce/Metchie/Deculus/Q. Loses points because of blown Green pick and spending a 2nd on a backup player Metchie 2023- A+ - Star guys CJ/WA, Starters Dell and found late rd starters Patterson/Too Too, found good backup level players Scruggs (I know he'll probably be sarting next season) Horton/Hutch. 2024- B+ - Found 3 starers 2 star level players (Lassiter/Bullock) and a starting RT as a rookie (Fisher), Stover should develop into a mid level decent TE in a couple of yrs. Rest of the draft was a whole bunch of nothing, should've tried to trade up some of those picks to add ST's contributors or another CB. Draft class gets knocked down to a B+ because of the bad luck Diggs trade and missing out on a star level player in BTJ. My Criteria is getting 1 star level player, preferably 2 and a couple of starters out of each draft. So 3 starters and a ST's guy or 2. 4 contributors. Over all I would say Caserio has done a fine job considering has been drafting for 3 different HC's with 3 different philosophies.
