This sounds like the cons section on his pre-draft assessment. Personally, I was estatic with his rookie year. He's the ballhawk safety we desperately needed and he showed outstanding play recognition skills for a rookie. I'm sure he made mistakes, but I can't recall any blantant missed tackles or poor angles. I think PFF fell pray to lazy journalism versus the improvements a kid can make with NFL coaching and a system that allowed him to blossom. He was one of the steals of the draft imo.
It's difficult to provide an objective grade without using all-22 video to assess a player's performance on every play. I too like Calen but he does have work to do to become a better all-around safety. FWIW, PFF ranks Pitre and Ward 15 & 18. I think fans enjoy PFF when it gives their guys a good grade but then feel otherwise when it doesn't. Blake Fisher is another Texans rookie who received a very poor PFF grade.
That's true, but they don't share those with us. My problem is that I think every Texan is a LOCK for Canton. That's why I need neutral observers to temper my delusions.
"us" don't matter. This is why I hate draft season, because everyone looks like someone who could help the team.
