I noticed on at least one of those Stingley picks that if Sting didn't come down with it, Bullock was right there too.
Boy... I'm not sure about that? Nabers' numbers are better - in fewer games - and he didn't have Justin Herbert throwing to him. In fact, he had 2nd- and 3rd-string QBs after they released Jones - who's a back-up himself now. Throwing Bowers in, it was an incredible year for rookie pass-catchers. The Lassiter oversight is fairly egregious.
Ladd was better in almost every advanced metric. Around the same in yardage and TDs. Far better in YPC. Ladd had a better season by a lot. Being the main target to get a bunch of catches like Nabers doesn’t make it better. Chargers are a run first team where Ladd has other players to share with. He was better than Nabers this year https://stathead.com/tiny/rNAvz
This goes to show what a trash coach Lincoln Riley is. He doesn’t know ish about developing young talent on the defensive side or bbqing a decent brisket.
There was the longest time where our DBs for whatever reason could never intercept the ball. I think outside of J-Joseph, we prioritized coverage over takeaways. This is why we drafted Kevin Johnson over Marcus Peters. Now we have guys that can do both, but especially having ballhawks like Sting, Lassiter, and Bullock makes our secondary significantly more dangerous to other teams.
I would say our DB's tackling ability is what stands out to me . Sting and Lassister have some impressive solo TFLs that other DBs cant make.
This seemed like an obvious case of the pair being better than the sum of the parts and this hit me as soon as Bulloch was drafted.
I haven't been able to figure out why PFF gave him such a low grade for the 24' season. I asked Google and their AI provided the following, vague, response. AI Overview Calen Bullock's PFF grade is often considered low because of concerns about his inconsistent tackling ability, struggles with play recognition, taking poor angles to the ball, and a perceived lack of physicality in run support, despite his impressive coverage skills and ability to generate turnovers; essentially, while he can excel in pass defense, he can be unreliable against the run, leading to a lower overall grade. Key points about Bullock's PFF grade: Coverage Prowess: Bullock is often praised for his excellent coverage skills, with the potential to make big plays with interceptions, but this is often not reflected fully in his PFF grade due to other weaknesses. Tackling Concerns: Critics point to his inconsistent tackling form and tendency to miss tackles, especially in run defense, which significantly impacts his overall grade. Play Recognition Issues: Some analysts note that Bullock can struggle with reading plays quickly, leading to poor positioning and missed tackles. Physicality Question: While he has good athleticism, there are concerns about whether he is physically strong enough to consistently handle the demands of NFL run defense.
