To me this move makes Diggs expendable. Only way Diggs stays, is if he really wanted to stay in Houston… Because the Texans now have another legit #2 guy. The Texans have a #1 in Collins, a #2 in Kirk. And you can’t pay another fella like a #1 or #1b receiver money. But I’m sure Diggs on the team makes them so much better. But can they make it work financially?
The calculus is his market cost would exceed his contract cost by more than the cost of the 7th round pick. This indicates a belief he is worth it on an open market and we would rather focus on other players with him in the fold.
I don't think this has any bearing on adding another receiver. Kirk is a high end WR3/low end WR2 that has been injured a lot lately. You still absolutely need to add a Diggs quality receiver. Helpful add, but certainly not enough.
A Nick Westbrook or Darius Slayton would be nice as the #4 then draft a wr at 25 Nico Golden/Burden/Emeka Kirk Slayton
Nah sign another quality low cost FA like Westbrook or Elijah Moore and draft a talented developmental guy like TesLaa in the 4-5th rd. Whoever they sign in FA needs to be a field stretcher though.
Slayton is going to get paid mid tier or above FA money which will be out of the Texans price range now that they've added Kirk.
That was my internet genius advice for Caserio a month or so ago: 2 vets and a rookie Or was I talking about the OL?
Guys like Moore can play. He just had to play with a pervert who wasn't a good QB. The top 3 picks need to be spent on the OL/DL/secondary IMHO. This lines up with the strength of the draft fortunately. All the shiny new toys wont matter until they get the OL fixed and they're going to have to spend high draft capital to fix it.
