At this point, I trust the team when it comes to evaluating pitchers. They see something that they can work with. They've only screwed up one signing and it was Montero and his issue is between the ears. I'm hoping Montero gets some humility and has a good season.
I say “good” add because he’s got legit potential and zero downside. Why did the Rays let Collin McHugh go? Why did the Red Sox let Kaleb Ort go? And on and on. The Rays aren’t infallible. Im not expecting the guy to be Josh Hader out there, but he might be a decent pickup capable of handling the 6th or 7th inning.
He has shown he can be competent at the big league level and it’s nice to have someone like that on a cheap deal.
They’re trying to harp on the nostalgia of the late 90’s uniforms… I know a lot of people here like those, but I always felt those looked fairly 90’s-only centric (not quite the pinstripes uniform bad - both Rockets/Astros!), but not timeless like the uniforms became after the rebrand (and before the team got good again). It also looks like they tried to correct the biggest mistake of those uniforms (the lettering/logo spread way too big)… but these look way too small and the rest of the uniform is empty. One day MLB will figure this and other aspects out to try and compete with what EPL and European football teams have been already doing for decades… Also (off topic) anybody see the debacle that happened with the new-era hats? Mainly due to the Texans Rangers version? I think those would have broken record sales, but they were largely going to be bought due to inappropriate reasons (and would have been awesome that the Rangers hats were the poster child of that major f-up).
Yeah, I absolutely love these, although I wish it just said Astros. I loved the 90's design. The main issue was that they abandoned the Astros signatures when they adopted them. Orange as the primary color and the H-Star hat never should have changed. Our current jersey's are perfectly fine, and will forever be associated with the golden era...but they are generic AF. As middle of the road and inoffensive as a uniform can possibly be.
Based on leaks, they’re going to use an abysmal “A” blasting off logo for the hat/helmet for CC. I feel baseball teams resonate more with the hat (and said logo on the hat) vs. the jersey itself. The hat is what is on the HOF plaque. The hat logo is usually the main logo of the team (minus some few cirumcstances over the years, like the Orioles or Indians/Guardians). Should have never gone away from the H with star. At least they rectified it. The 90’s hats do look dated and are the least popular of all the other previous hats (including the godawful pinstripe era). But the leaked CC hat may try and take that mantle… probably too late for them to salvage it. Might as well have gone with the New Era hats above… Houston’s was the ASHOES!
I love the orange shooting star. I had a hat with the orange shooting star during our red brick era and wore that hat out.
Yeah I get that they were always gonna have a unique hat of some kind, new merch is the only reason they exist, but it's terrible. It doesn't even associate with the Astros. I would have preferred they go all in with the orange shooting star if they insisted on something new instead of slapping an A on the hat.
