Anything can happen but catcher, SP and RP seem pretty low to me. We will see what happens at 2nd base. Rodgers certainly is talented enough to be an average or better starting second baseman. If they have to go with Dubon, he isn't good but will not kill them because of the relative offense at the position. If anyone is curious - they have Arenado as #11 in baseball at 3rd base and good for 3.5 WAR
My ideal semi-plausible opening day lineup: LF Altuve 2B Paredes DH Alvarez 1B Walker C Diaz 3B Arenado RF McCormick SS Pena CF Meyers Bench: Dubon, Gamel, Caratini, Guillorme Singleton and Hummel DFA. Rodgers released. McCormick gets 150 pa to see if he’s rebounded while Dezenzo and Smith work in RF in the minors to vie to be McCormick’s replacement. Gamel lets Meyers sit against tough RHP, Guillorme does the same for Pena.
I agree with you on catcher. The rotation might be very good, but one proven MLB high-level starter and several high variance pieces sounds right around the middle of the league - the projection is taking into account both upside and downside in that case. Hader was not good last year, so I can see us not being top 10 in the RP department. He rebounds, we settle on a good 7th inning guy, and we could be top-5 again. I'm not interested in projecting Rodgers' true talent level as a 28yo who has been bad for most of his MLB career. Zero speed, power maxxing at 15HR while hitting at Coors, just not a lot to get excited about other than 260s average and doubles. I think he's got to hit better than the .200 he's hitting in ST to even make the squad.

Ok from someone who would know on the internet. Walker out 4-6 weeks will not be ready by opening day. my conjecture: This is awesome if you are a Cam Smith truther like me. Paredes to 1B Cam starts the season at 3B and gets a solid 3 week look. If he belongs then Walker comes back mid to end of April and Paredes goes to 2B or Cam goes to RF, whichever position needs the most help. We have a lot of guys who are ready to see if they are ready. I like 3 week looking at stuff while Walker gets healthy.
Or they up the pressure to get Arenado. But that really sucks if Walker is gonna miss a month+ right off the bat.
I don’t think that timeline would be a month plus. We are still 35 weeks from opening day- so that would be something like 1-3 weeks missed. Maybe. McTaggert says no big deal but the Astros lie about injuries so….
Baseball is on right now and opening game is march 27th (Astros)...it'll come quickly. Not sure about the 35 weeks..
So Cooper Hummel hasn't finished below .400 OBP since pre-covid? His last 4 seasons at AAA Reno/Sugar land/Tacoma he has averaged a .418 OBP Damn, that's pretty impressive.
Time is weird for @Wulaw Horn. Every day without MLB baseball is a week. And every podcast is 2 hours.
