Kyrie Irving Season Ending Torn ACL As Dallas Maverick (2024-2025 season)

Hopefully PHX doesn't get a wild hair and decide to shoot for that last play-in spot.

I know it’s selfish but that’s also one of the first things I thought about

 

Kyrie has a 44M PO next year; I think he takes it

 

Portland has a better shot than Phoenix at sneaking in. But I think the Mavs could hold onto the 10th spot despite this injury unless the team shuts AD down and goes into full tank mode. My gut tells me their pride won't allow them to do that though. They still want to save face with that trade.

I feel terrible for Kyrie and their fanbase. As much as I hate the Mavs, those fans don't deserve to suffer through this kind of a season coming off a Finals appearance.

 

Never wish injury on a player, hope for a full recovery. That being said...

What mavs fans feeling are what Texans felt during BOB years where he traded Hopkins away.

 

Poor Kyrie. This sucks

 

Sucks for Kyrie. You know these players put a lot of hard work to be ready for the season only to have a devastating injury like this happen. He was carrying that Mavs teams to wins and just need AD to come back to finish off a decent run.

Injuries suck. I still remember that 2005-2006 season where both T-mac and Yao went out with injuries in addition to some of our role players just getting old. Such a promising season after a fun 1st round match up with Dallas only to end up in the lottery the year after.

 

Reason number 536 why you don't trade long window for an extremely short window.

 

And by "extremely short window" - you mean the *31 minute* window until Davis pulled his oblique again vs. Houston. Oh man.

 

It may wind up being a nonexistent window after this. ACL tears take at least 9 months to recover from. This season and next were their best shots at a title with AD and Kyrie. This season's already a lost cause and they'll be playing catch up next year since Kyrie will have to miss a lot of games while he's healing.

 

By even calling it a window I was trying to be a devils advocate that there may have been "some" justification for the trade.

Realistically, there never was a window with Davis and Kyrie...everybody knew that. He traded everything for a tandem with a hard glass ceiling.

 

The one game they had healthy Davis and Irving was against us, can’t believe our luck.
