My request is not directed at any one person. It's directed at the latest person to include politics in their response- every one w/o bias.
Why does this always happen after a person dies, Pete wanted this more than anything else and if you had seen any of interviews over the past decade you would come to 2 conclusions, he is a nut job and he wants in the HOF. IMO he deserved it 10-15 years ago, the man was Charlie Hustle, yes he gambled, yes he lied about it and then eventually came clean. We have guys in the HOF who were drug addicts before we knew what this type of drug taking could do. Now he is dead and will never have his dream realized
I agree with you - which is why I don't really believe in keeping out Bonds and Clemens. I was an employee for an MLB team during the steroid period and I can tell you that the vast majority of baseball players used steroids or PEDS and many others used the "special coffee". Drug use was rampant, as was any method of cheating they could get away with. Pitchers were using substances as well. Those that were careful used masking and tapered and their chance of being caught went way down. This doesn't even get into prescription pills that became en vogue after a few players got an exemption.
You said bonds and Clemens should get in based on what they did before they cheated. So Rose should too right?
Not sure what happened to my reply above I knew Joe Niekro pretty well when I was a kid and was watching the game live on tv in '87 when the umps checked him for foreign substances and he tried to discard the nail file from out of his back pocket without them noticing. He got ejected and suspended 10 games. I saw him a few months later at my house actually and, being 12 years old, I had no problem asking him about it. He said he always keeps one on him to keep his nails the proper length and, sure enough, he pulled one out of his back pocket and smiled. He taught me how to throw a knuckleball and played catch with me for awhile while I worked on the pitch. I hadn't thought about that in a long time. Pretty awesome memory.
I had hoped this thread would go away...but here it still is. A degenerate gambling addict POS who liked to f**k little girls. I completely understand why Trump admires him, certainly his kind of "alpha". At least Rose actually had to work for what he accomplished in life.
Really cool story and thanks for sharing. I don’t doubt that Neikro was constantly using a file on his nails - a lot of pitchers back then did and then when the Japanese pitchers started coming over they would get manicures and then secretly a lot of the US pitchers did. Do I think Joe Niekro cheated? Yeah I do - he was at the end of his career and didn’t have a lot left. Then again I guarantee you at least several guys in the line up he faced were cheating too. Someone should go ask Yelich what happened… then ask Syndergarrd about it.
The pardoning of Rose I find weird. I don’t think anyone really thinks he didn’t commit tax evasion - and really Rose is extremely lucky that’s the only time he ever did. For as long as I can remember there were rumors about Rose being abusive to his family and being really into drugs and shady things. I remember some old baseball people telling me that Rose wasn’t the only one ever - but was sleeping with fans still in high school. Well now we know that is true. He could have easily gone to jail for statutory rape. So, while I don’t really care if President Trump parsons him or pushes for him to be in the Hall of Fame - I find it really odd based on the under aged sex information that has come out. We have bigger issues than this - and I suspect that Rose will get into the HOF. If he does, Joe Jackson (who was a better player) better get in as well. On one hand I look at some of the athletes Trump has rallied with and they have done terrible things like Antonio Brown, Mike Tyson, Ben Rothlisberger and others…. I would think someone wouldn’t want to be connected to these people. On the other hand I suppose an argument could be made that he shows forgiveness to these people and as a country we should be more forgiving. I don’t know - but I do know that I personally would be more excited for Joe Jackson to finally get the attention he deserves as a tremendous baseball player that likely didn’t even cheat.
Cool? Good for you? You’re so smart? What kind of validation are you lacking in your life that leads you to come on Clutchfans, to this stupid ass thread to brag to yourself about something that nobody gives a crap about?
All of 'em will end up on the right side of history, that is the story of life, but that doesn't make it right, and you don't wash it away. The clean players got screwed at the time. And they didn't like it.
