The win total is kinda weak. Just under 11 wins a season. Actually he must’ve had a ton of no decisions because he only averaged like 7 losses a year too.

and yes I know he was a reliever for a very short time

I think there must be a reasonable floor.

The 10 yr minimum is fine but they should add a performance qualifier.

The shorter the career is, the more the peak must count, but there needs to be some way to curtail compiling.

Maybe add another qualifier of a minimum number of seasons as a top 10% player? How to determine that needs to be worked out, but if a guy is not among the top 10% of all players in at least 5, 6, maybe 7 seasons (tbd) then he isn't a HOF regardless of how many stats he compiles.

I would add that a great postseason can substitute for a top 10% season, but not the same year.

Ex. If a guy is top 10% 2025-2028 + great in the 2030 postseason that would qualify as 5. If he is great 2025-2028 + great in the 2027 postseason that would still be 4.

And he can only choose his hat from teams that he played for during a top 10% or great postseason.

I realize this brings a bunch of questions of how to determine a top 10% season or great postseason. I'm not sure I know the answer to that. All I know is a period of greatness needs to be included to avoid compilers.

I must admit I thought this thread was weak when first viewed. And thought it would die on the vine quickly.

    Color me fooled.

I also wish someone would open a world baseball HOF which is even more selective.

But I think it missed the window of economic viability if it ever had one.

I don’t care about any HOF other than baseball. There’s just no framework that makes sense for basketball and football is basically nonsense with how they do it.

Can you use that in a sentence please?

Pete Rose. Personally, I think he should be in the Hall Of Fame. They don't call it the Hall of Honorability. Maybe they should make a separate wing in Cooperstown- the Hall Of Infamy.

Banning Rose from baseball as a manager or executive or whatever definitely was the right move. I just think that it is incomplete if the all-time hits leader is not included in the Hall. All of those 4,256 hits were legitimate and not accomplished by cheating. Bonds, on the other hand, compiled a lot of his baseball stats while cheating. To me, that is a different case. I still think Bonds should be in the hof, however.

Have you been to Cooperstown? It's a lifelong dream of mine. Someday, I'll make it there. Anyone else here ever been?

I get what you are saying but if you want to go ahead and be above average for 20 or 25 years without ever being great and get to 3000 hits or 300 wins I’m fine with you being in the HoF. Other people can feel differently and I’m not saying they are wrong- it’s subjective.

Yes. It’s awesome. I spent almost an entire day and could have done more.

There's 2 of them standing there looking at me, [one would be a freak, 2 would be a tweak, 3 would be a...]

The Astros need to make a few tweaks to their roster.

Went when Biggio was inducted. Highly suggest going on an induction even if an Astro isn’t going in. It was awesome.

I went for Bagwell's induction. It is such a cool little town, and the HOF is a nice museum. We flew into Boston to watch a Sox game and rented a car to make the drive to Cooperstown. Definitely want to go back. Kinda wish I lived there, though I'm sure I wouldn't feel that way in the winter. I'm hoping to go back for Altuve induction.

I understand this, but if a guy has a lesser peak, he simply must be very very good much longer, and if he doesn't have the peak then below average seasons should count against him, especially if it's a season trying to compile stats in order to hit a level to be considered ( like Biggio if he didn't have the peak)

This thread has to be THE craziest/pathetic I've ever seen on Clutchfans and I've been here a long ass time. It's like some of you are walking through a crime scene and are ignoring the elephant who's not just in the room but has been murdered. There are some VERY sick people on this site and god forbid some innocent person crosses their path when they're melting down or aren't on their meds.

Never mind. Sorry for interrupting the discussion on whether or not Schilling deserves to be in the HOF.

    “Some very sick people”?

There was only one guy lashing out and saying sick and horrible things to posters.
