That sucks when a guy gets cut loose. It's worse when a promising career is detailed by injury. I hope he gets picked up and given a chance. Just please please please don't be by the Astros.
Why? He has a better BA, OPS, OPS+, and SLG than Jake and Chas. Smaller sample but almost a full season of ABs.
Because he's primary a LF (90 of 102 MLB games) who can't replace Meyers or Chas in CF who hits RH and is better against LHP than RHP. Just more of what they already have.
Just woke up from a dream that our lineup at the end of the season was: LF Jose Altuve 2B Isaac Paredes DH Yordan Alvarez C Yainer Diaz 1B Christian Walker RF Cam Smith 3B Nolan Arenado CF Brice Matthews SS Jeremy Pena .. Should probably stop reading Clutchfans right before bed
Literally thinking about Brice Matthews at CF or 2B No to Nolan Arenado Cam Smith at 3B, Isaac Paredes to LF or DH
By my count, there are 47 position players in camp. I have divided them into 6 catagories: Guaranteed: (8) Caratini, Diaz, Walker, Dubon, Paredes, Pena, Altuve, Alvarez. Very likely: (3) Meyers, Gamel, McCormick On 40 contending: (8) Salazar, Singleton, Whitcomb, Dezenzo, Hummel, Corona, Leon, Trammell NRI contending: (3) Short, Guillorme, Rodgers NRI prospects: (11) Lavastida, Palma, Price, Bush, Hudson, Bastidas, Matthews, Smith, Sacco, Hamilton, Melton. Minor league lineup fillers: (14) Wrobleski, Castro, Guillemette, Jaworski, C Gonzalez, Ferreras, Barber, Ochoa, Daniels, Sullivan, Cerny, Gomez, Baez, Ramirez
Not sure he’s got in a game yet, I feel like he’s starting to lose some shine and with Altuve trenched in LF and Yordan at DH he may not have a spot in the near future. I hope they try him out at first, even if he spends the next 3 seasons learning it and being a better hitter. He’ll only be 24 when Walker’s contract is up.
While I do respect your fandom for Arrighetti, I would put the likelihood of him being an ace/cy young contender like Framber at like 5%. Like Nook mentioned, the high effort delivery and lack of elite command prevent him from pitching deep in games. That’s not to say I don’t think he can be really good and pitch like one of the best pitchers in baseball for stretches. But he has very clear flaws and will need to improve drastically in the consistency department to get to the level you’re assuming he will.
That's my opinion. Singleton, Hummel, and Trammell are out of options, so would need to be DFA'd/placed on waivers if they don't make it. Although Trammell will likely start the season on the IL. Short, Rodgers, and Guillorme are all on minor league deals so would be able to be sent to AAA if they don't make it, though those deals frequently have opt outs if they don't make the 26 man. Leon is also hurt and likely out of consideration. My money is on Guillorme or Rodgers winning one of the spots and Singleton or Dezenzo winning the other. If I had to bet, I would guess Guillorme and Singleton.
